Hi, I personnaly use PS for almost all my graphics needs. It's, in my opinion, the most complete. I also use Illustrator, but most of the times I end up exporting my .ai into PS.

well, instead of using the lasso to create the shape i want... i make a square or rectangle shape... and then with the Lasso i remove what is not needed... works great for me... that and a Gaussian...
