The Flash Wolf
I'd probibly be a good idea becuase i have Visual Studios and it has Visual C++ in it has most the stuff for programming i probuibly have the wrong stuff to run Swish V2 Beta 2
-
I also get the Visual C++ error shown above. I was not able to run the first version of Beta 2.0 either due to the same error. Hope you will include the necessary files in the next update.

Do you have Visual C++ installed on your PC as well?

If I add someting like text/sound or anthing else or if i undo. it takes 39!!! seconds befor it is ready with loading.
And my pc speed is 1 Ghz so that isn´t the problem.

No, I do not have visual C++. I have VB 6.0 and thus some of the Visual Studio related files, but not Visual C++.
To be more complete: sometimes when I try to start Swish beta, the logo appears briefly, then nothing. Seems like if I repeat this several times, eventually, I will get the Visual runtime error message. Oddly the first beta actually ran one time, but other that than one instance, the situation described above occurs.

New image effects don't work
I can't make the new image effects work (exploding images etc.).
Only the good old vanilla effects are functioning.
What am I doing wrong ?
Someone, please help - I wanna blow up an image damn'it.
Cheers,
gatta

release date
this may have been asked before....but when is this expected to be final? I'm likin' the new look but want to be able to publish with it!

There are no new image effects.
SWF format doesn't support doing things to images .. only to vector graphics and text.
SWiSH complex effects can be applied to text or to a group of objects (eg. a group of vector shapes).
If you import a multi-element vector shape, you can turn it into a group of shapes and then apply a complex effect to the group.
We may look at making this a bit easier in the future (eg. make it so that, if you apply a complex effect to a vector shape with multiple elements, it will split it for you just like it splits text into multiple shapes).

Using the Merged Shape as a Mask . . . Here is my problem,
If you draw an ellipse and a box . . . Overlap them just slightly . . . Then merge them . . . Then use that shape as a mask . . . Why is the section of the ellipse and box that overlap not part of the mask ?? Also, why is the section that is overlapped not part of the shape period ? (meaning no color allowed where they intersect) ...
Well, that's how Flash player render the overlapped area of a merged shape. To get rid of the 'hole' on an intersection, in the next release, i will add an option "Define as Font" for shape objects. But only a close shape with solid fill style are allow to be defined as a font.

It can be done by using merge/split.
1. Draw an array of squares without line style.
(It would be easier to do it using copy/paste with Snap to Grid on)
2. Merge all squares and fill an image to the merged shape.
3. Split the shape and group all the elements.
(Since there is a bug in beta 2a, you can't get the correct result in this step. Sorry!)
4. Apply an Explode effect to the group.
You can find the example here:

I get the same error, I do not have Visual C++ or Visual Studio, all I have is my computer, on a Windows 98, and everything else works fine, even Swish 1.51

Re: Re: New image effects don't work
I tried to explode Image:
a)Insert TEXT
b)Convert to Letters
c) Into OutLine Panel, click over TEXT
d) Add Image
e) Now Image is Into Letters of Text
f) Add Effect like Snake , Explode....
That´s all
Only works with one effect consecutive.

OOOOO! I'm delighted by the new image effects!
I was woundering if effects for Swish would be like plug-ins Photoshop, in the final release. And if tools for making these effects would be available.
Keep up the great work on Swish!

Hey, great idea, Hung! Who would'a thought that merged shapes also would enable complex effects on images!!! Well, I guess you guys guessed that, but for the simple folks like me, this is a great innovation! Chalk up another new feature, born out of a different new feature no less!
Thanks guys.

That will be perfect, thanks Hung! And because it's specifically for masks, a closed shape with a solid fill is fine!
While I see how from your perspective as a programmer it makes sense to define the shape as a font, for the purposes of the program, maybe it could be called "use merged shape as mask" or something to that effect if that's the only thing it will be used for, so that people will easily know what its use is. Unless there are additional uses for this feature, then something like you put might definitely work better.
Thanks for the quick solution, Hung, that is perfect!
Best, Will

I have been having problems whenever I import an swf file. It creates huge horizontal black lines on the right side of the sprite (imported swf)

Can you please send us
* the SWF you are trying to import
* the SWI you are importing it into
* the resulting SWI (with the huge horizontal black lines on the right).
Thanks
