    Cool starchie, Great prize!

I don't wear make up myself (except if i'm going to fancy dress party), but I know a few ladies who would love that as a gift!

How could we run this competition, maybe we should create a little web page to run it from?!? Of course linking it to flashkit.com, ud.com etc etc

    Any further ideas?

wow this is a great idea!! I especially love the idea of getting me to do all the hard work

so who would the flash intro be for? we could somehow use it to advertise team flashkit? We can't use it to advertise for United Devices caus they're a commercial organisation, the cancer project is just a section of it, we could advertise that bit of United Devices. this is a great idea guys, i hope the anit-cancer councils reply and like the idea. Good idea to have one every 3 months, it'll keep it current and keep this interesting, getting more and more people to sign up.

We could create a webpage, maybe even create a thank-you certificate, or ask the anti-cancer organisation it is for for a thank-you certificate so it is something to add to the portfolio for the designer.

We could even hold a competition to see who can get the most people to sign up for the cancer project

    rules hmmm
    • must be an active participant (crunching work units) in the project
    • between 15 and 60 seconds?
    • <400k
    • more 2 come

can't really think of anything right now since it's 2:37am but if i think of nething else i'll post. looks like we'll just have to wait for a reply from the anti-cancer councils and find out what they would like and tailor the rules to suit them. This is a great idea and thanks to those for donating stuff!! Maybe we can go for bigger stuff, I'll ask around maybe some other companies will donate something, a years hosting who knows. in return, hmm personal satisfaction, a mention in the thread, who knows.

    oh and btw...
we have broken into the top 500 for work units - well done and we have cleared 2k work units - 2074

    hi hobbi

the intro would be more like a commercial for the cancer research section of united devices, advertising the idea and how easy it is to contribute.

the plan is to have the winning intro play from a link on the cancer council's page, and at the end have a billboard that tells you that this was created by team flashkit for the ud project, with links to ud to sign up, perhaps a link that signs you up as a member of team flashkit, or instructions on how to join us, a link to flashkit itself,
and eventually a link to the archive of past winners.

how long do you think 400 k will take to load over a 56k line - or is that " how long is a peice of string?

i will play around with a prototype and post the url later so you can see what i mean, an shape it into a usable idea.

    peace and love

    g'day starchie
we could send the intro to heaps of anti-cancer websites. we should have a link to flashkit since they're supporting this, a link to team flashkit, and of course a link to the cancer section in united devices.

the size is a question, if it's too big then a lot of people won't want to view it, but if too small then there isn't enough room to make it look good. 400k will take a couple of minutes, maybe we should make it 350k limit. Good idea with the page with past winners, and an archive of all the flash files. We can have some advertising on the site for anyone who donates prizes. Once we get something off the ground i'll give mark or someone at FK to put a link in the competitions section and start mailing people to ask to contrubite something

cheers for coming up with the idea panel of 3 judges ya reckon?

it'd be cool if there was a PDF team, and we could compete with them, not that they'd have a chance does anyone who frequents PDF wanna start a team there?

I see a lot of great ideas flying around here, proving once again how smart and kind (not to mention competitive )Flashkit members are. heres a thought relating to the flashkit 2001 conference, anyone tried getting in touch with the organisers to see if we can get mentioned/featured/profiled/anykindapublicityatall? Any ideas Razormedia?

the competition is an outstanding idea, it should definately raise the profile quite a bit. Hats off to all those contributing.

    hi

this is the type of thing i had in mind

    http://starchie.20m.com

unfortunatly this webspace has a banner ad so you might have to scroll down to see the whole thing

given my grasp of math it should run 1 minute

    25 fps x 60 sec = 1500 frames

this is only 81 k, so lots of room for fancy stuff from the genius patrol

anyway this is the kind of thing i was thinking of, so let me know what you think, it has a few rough edges but i made it real quick so i could get it up tonight, and still get out for a pint

    peace and love

starchie - that commercial was great - high impact, good idea with the husband, father, son etc making the viewer realise it's possible it could happen to them. We've gotta make the commercial show how many people are affected by cancer, hard hitting stats like how you said 1 in 3 people will be directly affected by cancer. I don't know about getting a mention at FK01, if this gets big enough, then maybe we can negoiate something about the prize winner being awarded their prize at FK01 with mark, this may be asking too much but it can't hurt to ask.

I wonder what kind of publicity we can give people who donate prizes, a link on the page that is created to showcase the winners, maybe a link and their logo in this thread, i'm not sure if that kind of advertising is allowed but if it is it's something.

well I have tried to get a team going at PDF and create a little rivarly, maybe we can think of a prize similar to credo's idea with the wrestling forums. We have to create a thread about how good PDF is ne ideas?

Oh the rivalry was always there, I'm just using it for a good cause.
And the SCW freaks are slowly changing thier tune, very very slowly.

There would be huge sections of the internet world who wouldnt even know this was going on.
I am going to try redhotdivas.com next, I hate the place (its full of teens posting fake nude pics of female wrestlers) but its worth a shot.

I am proud to announce that I am member number 100 of Team FLASHKIT and I will do my best to leave my PC online at all times to fight the ongoing battle... the stats say that we are currently 99 strong with 1 retired... nevertheless.. that retired man is STILL counted in our total and thus we ARE 100 strong... as for the retired mate... may he die of cancer... (KIDDING) may he go on to create another group to add to the hundreads of teams adding to the chances of creating a cureable world... that is all...

"and to think, I was up all night last night doing my own (AlGoreRythems) trying to find a cure on my own... I guess this makes more sence..."

As well as an intro competition, we'll have a footer competition too. It'll be okay to post it here and on popedeflash.

    Rules are:

    no sound
    < 15k
    gotta look good
    400 x 30 pixels

The best one (as judged by hobbi and the top 3 members of team flashkit) will receive a copy of swift 3d, the second best will win a bag of pies.
