    Which browser best for mac?

    Safari:-
Clean, simple and fast; uses native OS widgets that behave like other os controls (i.e. unlike Firefox).

For javascript debugging, Firefox + Firebug or Venkman (I don't really do any actual web dev anymore).

Ok, I imported all bookmarks from firefox to Safari. When I go to bookmarks, it says show all bookmarks. That is quite inconvenient. Is there a way that if you go to bookmarks it will automatically show all bookmarks as in other browsers?

Click "show all bookmarks" and make sure your bookmarks are actually in "Bookmarks menu" and not in some other folder.

Camino is a pretty nice browser, by the way.

you wan't be able to have your bookmarks drop down like in other browser... when you select all bookmarks it will open a panel on the left as I'm sure you tried. I got to admit it's not as convenient.

Um, no. After you have imported your bookmarks from Firefox, go to "show all bookmarks" and drag your newly-imported bookmarks into "bookmarks menu" to get them on the drop-down menu.

Thanks for all the input. I think I switch to Safari now.

I've heard a lot of people debating over which browser is better on MacOS X. For me there's no contest. Here are the top 10 reasons I prefer Safari over Firefox:

    1) Close boxes on each tab rather than just one at the side of the window. This allows you to close tabs without having to switch to them. Firefox I believe has add-ons that allow this to happen, but it's one reason I've preferred Safari.

    2) Starts and loads webpages slightly faster. I'm on a Dual 1GHz G4, so every little bit counts. I've heard the opposite on this - people saying Firefox is faster, but not in my experience at all.

    3) "Private Browsing" toggle. Say you're gift shopping for someone who uses the same account as you do, and don't want them looking in your history and ruin the surprise. Although, I'm sure a lot of people use this to cover their tracks when looking at pornography...

    4) Things like Empty Cache and pop-up blocking are easily toggled from the Safari menu. In Firefox you have to open your preferences to switch them on or off.

    5) History is in the menu bar instead of on the side of the window. The only reason I really prefer this is because the Firefox sidebar is fairly narrow, and most of the titles in my history are pretty long. Plus there's never really a reason for me to have my history visible while I'm viewing websites. I guess this is just personal preference though.

    6) The textboxes don't allow you to spell-check in Firefox. In Safari you can have it do it as you type. This is a big deal for me.

    7) In Safari, you can bookmark locations in Finder. If you do this in Firefox, you'll just get a directory listing whereas in Safari it will switch to Finder and take you to that folder. You can do this by creating a bookmark with the location of "file://<system partition name>/Library/WebServer/Documents/". Also handy to have a link to your downloads folder.

    8) JavaScripts can be called via AppleScripts in Safari. I never use this, but it's cool to know that I could use an AppleScript to execute JavaScript on an open webpage. I'm not sure if Firefox does this or not.

    9) Bookmarks bar and menu can include Bonjour and Address book. This is a minor thing for me. None of my friends really have websites I visit very often, and I'm still not even real sure what the hell Bonjour does.

    10) Finally, most of the stuff you'll miss from Firefox (and more) can be added with add-ons like Saft, Safari Enhancer, AcidSearch (my favorite) or PithHelmet.

Don't get me wrong; there's stuff I think Firefox has that's superior to Safari:

    - Sometimes renders code better. I've seen Safari do some weird stuff.
    - Has favicons on the tabs. I love those.
    - You can search your history. This is something I could see myself using quite a bit.
    - DOM inspector and Page Info! You can see the DOM under the hidden Debug menu in Safari (along with other cool stuff like making the window's background transparent), but that Page Info in Firefox is a stellar feature that Apple missed the boat on.

I am now more often using Safari, thanks to suggestions here. I kind of like it, but one problem I noticed. When I am notified about a thread answer from Flashkit in FF the link will lead me directly to the post in the thread, not in Safari.

    Any ideas?

I have that problem too, but only when I open links from Mail. If I reload the page, it goes down to the anchor. I've also noticed that it only scrolls to the anchor after the entire page has loaded - not when the anchor loads.
