Thread: 5k SWiSH page competition!

Am I invisable or was mine just so bad it does not deserve comment? Those of us that are just learning depend on you "experts" to give us advice...Otherwise we will never learn!

Well Pamela, try to be a teenie weenie more creative.
What you made doesn't do justice to the capabilities of swish, it could as well be an animated gif as far as I can tell. Furthermore, your smilie doesn't look to well, at least on my screen it doesn't.

Ask for feedback Pamela and look what you get...The lads!!

I'm surprised the Smiley Font was so big, but I just shaved 1kb of a footer project by swapping from Arial to Arial slim.

You may want to try the less glamorous Smiley in Webdings, dont know how big it is though.

Thanks, I will try that.... as for the feed back...hey, I ask for it and like I said it is the only way to learn.
I am amazed at the ones that have already posted such small files... and yet they seem to have so much content!!! I look forward to seeing the swi files after this is over so I can see how they were done.

Wasn't to happy with my colors last attempt, and had a few 100 bytes to spend, so here's the cleaned up version

So here i am trying to fit 500K into a scene for you, then i noticed, you wanted 5k not 500k, so i trimmed it down a bit.
    here goes:

O.K. I added a drop shadow & a close button, tweaked my .html & added a .swi download button & the byte info!
Its 5120 bytes on the nose now!
You can download the zip(.htm/.swf/.swi) from the 5kgui!

    Way to go MsPamela!
Converting your text to .gif is the only way you'll get more than a word or 2 in under 5k
Also, the squarer the font & less rounded curves/corners etc. that the font has, the smaller the file will be!
Thats what I did for my text & squished it to the max before I imported it!

This is fun! I'm glad people are participating!

Well Jazzman, I got a problem with your submission.
When I look at it for more than 10 seconds, my left eye starts turning to the left, while my right eye keeps looking at the screen.
    Very strange.

I am jealous of that last byte, but just don't have time to try to squeeze one more into mine (now 5119 bytes).

I agree that this is fun and instructional - maybe the post-release contest would be to take exactly what you have now and see who can reduce the size by the greatest percentage.

    Cheers,

    Flick
