Thread: Site Check Please

Hybrid View

Hi All, About a month ago I ask for a site check and got some very good advice. I have now made the changes and added some new animations to the Animation page. (entire site done in Swish)
Please tell me what you think.
I have looked at some of the other work that you more experianced designers have done and I am amazed. Though I spend hours in front of this computer it seems I will never learn all there is. Thanks to all of you for your input and sharing your talents.

ah ok. I had tried your footer, but it's only linked for a couple frames, and it's just a small pic in the corner, so I didn't catch it.

btw - i don't know what ur site looked like before, for comparison, but it's not bad now. It took about 45 secs to load on my 56k. I checked out a couple of ur animations and they loaded pretty slowly, considering their content, and were choppy. I'd suggest u put a preloader on them as well.

    Preloaders

Thanks, I did put preloaders on some... Guess I need to go back and put preloaders on all of them. What did you think of Chello? It took me some time to make hand holding the bow move the way I wanted.
    Thanks for you time.

    Footer

I also did just slow down my footer and put a bigger link area in it. Hope this is better now.

    links

Well, I thought about that but if you noticed all my pages are individual links....I did not use the Load and unload feature in Swish I used the Go to URL and made a HTML file for EACH page. That way I could change the background colours for different pages. Hence to add links on all those graphics was just more than I was willing to do at the moment but I agree with you I should have done it to begin with. thanks for taking the time to look.

Chello was 1 of the ones i clicked on... i sat there for about 30 seconds looking at the chello before i hit back. (I wasn't very patient... is my fault)

and what would be so hard about putting OnRelease actions on the pics? I was actually gonna mention that as well, but it slipped my mind. I definately think it would be an improvement though.

Links on the images would be a big improvement. People expect thing to link and i kept clicking on the photos even though I'd realized moments before that they obviously weren't linked (may be that's just me!).

I'd also suggest some sort of menu system, rather than relying on the back button - at least a "home" button or something.

Loads nice and fast on my cable connection.

Site looks great Pam. I would definitely add a menu or some sort of navagation. Try using the load movie command to load some of the "pages" Loaded realy quick on my DSL.
    Great work, keep it up.

Thanks Guys! It is hard to belive that a year ago I was beating my head against a wall trying to figure out flash. Thank goodness for SWISH and all of you in this forum! I think I might even open that flash book again one day . Who knows, maybe now some of it will make sense to me. This web site was a major undertaking for me. I first did the entire site with the Unload Movie in level ...... and Load Movie in level.... then I ran into problems with the background colour changes.... I tried using Index1..Index2.. and that was a mess.... so then I just made EVERY page have its own HTML file and used GO TO URL ..... But I never took off the "BACK" on the pages... I guess I could go in and change that to "HOME" As for the links on the images.... well, that would be more than I can handle at the moment.(that is a LOT OF LINKS)But it will be the first thing I do once I am back home. Thanks again for all your help in learning Swish 1.5.

    i like the pics!
linking them is not hard at all!

u could try to put in some more animations though!!!

hey can u email me the pic of the lazy bear?
    adrian@enigmastudios.net

    i like that alot!

    Lazy

there are more than bears that are lazy at the moment. Will have to wait on the links KingCrew. BTW, check your mail. About the animations, I am waiting to see which ones are mentionable before I do more. No sense spinning my wheels on things that are bad. So far no one has been impressed enough to mention any one particular animation. But hey, that is what I am here for, to listen and learn.

    Thanks for your input.

    One thing I noticed,
If you're going to use full page swf's
replace your <body> tag with this
    <BODY TOPMARGIN=0 LEFTMARGIN=0 RIGHTMARGIN=0 SCROLL=NO>
also inside your object code replace the dimensions with percentages this way it will fill the screen regardless of the resolution
    id="Movie1" width="100%" height="100%">
this way there is no offsetting issuses and regardless of the screen resolution the user will see a full screen

It loaded very quickly for me and I'm on 56k nice work!!!

    Offsetting

Thanks for taking the time to look.

    Dear Pam
Sorry, that was not very helpful, our solution is to type copy in MS Word or any WP. check spelling and grammer, then copy and paste into HTML editor;you can do this in reverse.
    Howard.

    Spelling

Ok..... thanks Howard. Doing this in reverse works much better... I tried typing it in Word first and I had lines in swish a mile long!!!!
