    An intro:
Should be as quick as possible to get the point across.
Should only be used if there is a point to get across.
Should not be used if there's nothing to communicate.
    Should effectively communicate.
Should not be created for the sake of using Flash.
Should serve as a quick description of yourself/your site/your skills.
Should not reek of text effects simply because they can be done.
Should give people a good impression of you, not a bad one.
    Should have a SkipIntro button.

    good rules to go by.

One of my customers said last week,

"A 'skip intro' is an admittance that the information offered in the intro is not really worth watching. after all, if it was that important could you really afford to skip it".

    Good point I thought

maybe because you've seen it before?

i say try to integrate the intro, if you absolutely must have one, into your site so that navigation and features are available. Check http://www.415.com for an example of what i mean.

We do the same with our interface in which the menus come up first. Any intro can be played within the interface while any particular movie can be initially playing.

    Check it out. http://clicktoview.tv

We also skipped the 'intro' but in a way where you just didn't have to "say it" which I think is far better, far more subtle.
