All comments are accepted. Ive got a pretty thick hide.

You posted another before this didn't you? I can see the scratch lines but not the hair and dust speckles, also how about working on some sepia tinting as well. It's a good start in the right direction though!!

    schallow,
This was the movie I was working on when i asked the question about copying parts of a timeline. I needed to copy the timeline for the flicker effect.

Use a darker background with white lines and "specks". Also, have the lines/specks/sratches move from top to bottom, reappearing and disappearing. This will give it an authentic look. Better yet, place the lines/specks/sratches on a separate movie and use the Load feature. In this manner, the lines/specks/sratches will continue in a loop.

Woow that is looking good! If I could make one suggestion, I think that adding water marks would lend that touch of authentisity you seek. Just my humble opinion.

Joe's right...needs to be darker and more flecks/dirt speck
looking things. Hair. Maybe even a cigarette "burn" from
time to time? How about a coffee stain now and then?

Hey...here's a thought. Either Black on White or White on
Black. Instead of the typical "Loading Movie", use the
phrase "Threading Movie". Create a filmstrip (can be wide)
with the sprocket holes in it...and have it constantly
moving (up or down) simulating motion. Then, it finishes
and up flashes (ooops...I said the "f" word) "Movie Is Now Threaded"...and go on to the next phase of the thing.

Yup...this could be quite cool if done correctly.

Yeah, looks pretty good, how about like in the last suggestion, a filmstrip, but kind of catching and moving sideways, into the scene.

Then stopping and melting, how cliche'.

Also a clicking frame sound, will bring it all home.

    More scratches, etc etc

OK...I ain't no design artist here, folks, but here's a
quick tiny piece to give you a visual idea.

    1. Evan is right: use some sepia tinting

    2. Look at an actual piece of old movie film
    and duplicate/clone the appearance with
the sprocket holes, etc. AND show the
frames separated by thin lines between
the two sides with the sprocket holes
(I only did one side & not accurate)

    3. You could put an text odometer with:

    a. Loading 10,000 foot reel...
    b. (Then) Loaded 1,000 feet of 10,000 feet
    c. 2,000 feet of 10K, 3K of 10K, etc. etc.
    instead of typical "KB"

Obviously, it would be very short and zip
through THOUSANDS of feet in a few seconds :-)

    Ohhh...almost forgot:

    http://www.globalworld.com/swish/zoldmovie.html

Do it! Along with all the flecks, dirt specks, etc.

    Yeah...roguenroll may be right...do it Horizontally...some
click & popping sounds (NOT LOUD) would be cool. Hey, part
way through the thing could BREAK (hehehe) along with a
    snapping sound.

New Message: "Ooops...the film broke...standby please".
SFX (voice) "Hey Joe, where's the glue?" (hehehe)

Then the screen flickers...or do that screen shake thing
and (voice again) says: "Oh crap...there's an earthquake!"
Umh, err, maybe not if it's a professional thing!

OH...just before the initial threading of the movie,
maybe text: "Turning projector on" (with SFX for the
sound of a switch being flipped). Hmmm...maybe a motor
whirring sound or actual captured/processed sound of
    a movie projector.

YEAH...YEAH, man...Ya gotta have the sound of a projector
    running in the background!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OHHHH...this is a trip...a "group" creative session here.
I think I'm gonna have an A/V orgasm here in a moment :-)

    ARRRGGGHHHH...listen to this...

    1. Screen initially black

    2. White letters say: "Turning On Projector" (with
    SFX of switch flipping)

    3. White letters say: "Turning On Light" (with SFX
of switch flipping and then the screen goes WHITE!!!

    4. Black letters say: "Threading 10,000 feet of old
    movie film".

    5. Red letters say: "Ooops...the film broke" etc. per
    previous post idea.

... or whatever ... knock yourself out, man.

P.S. Don't forget the actual projector SFX. If you can't
find a loop, I'm sure a local school probably has an OLD
projector around somewhere. Record the sound and convert
it to a .wav file for importing. Use CoolEdit or find a
person with a notebook computer equipped with it or some
ditial audio s/w that can save it as a .wav or whatever.

Last post ... it's 3:26AM and I gotta get up in the morning!

This thing could be a very entertaining "Preloader" :-)
And instead of the typical "Skip Intro" button, you could
have: "Do NOT Re-Thread Movie...Just Play It NOW!"

    WOW,
Thanks for all the responses. Great Ideas, all of them just need to see where I start first. Ive updated it with a projector wav I found and added sprockets by way of using (Webdings font 5) and tried to give it motion by sliding it down but it seems to get caught up at the top and the bottom. Reminds me of when I was running the projector at school because it did the same thing.
Flash777 you seem to be pretty hot on this project. I appreciate everyones Ideas. I will post the .swi file in a little while so everyone can have a go at it.
    THANKS

    Flash777 stay off the coffee!!!

If Swish can do everything mentioned here, then it's one amazing program (I realise it is already, but even more amazing!!)

Nice look and the sound is spot on, but how about a slight crack or nick in the screen. Maybe a layer on top of everything else that makes it look like the projectors a bit old and beaten up.

But not a sharp crack, I think maybe your reel on the right needs beating up a little, how I don't know. But it looks a little too clean cut. But hey, it's better than anything I've done so I'll shut up now

    hey, ADC2001

If I had all the file size in the world I'd use gifs.
But I would suggest dingbats, I've seen all kinds of
crazy ones. Scratches and hairs are a long shot but
    its worth a try.

Do you mind if I take a crack at your project, I kinda
am free tonight and between projects, and need the practice.

I think its something I could come up with.
