A tribute to Freddy Heineken……Mr Beer

    Hi all,

While a little belated, I felt it only fair to mention the tremendous achievement of Freddy Heineken ‘Mr Heineken’ who dies earlier this week. The following says it all:

    Extract from: http://www.forbes.com/2002/01/04/0104facepm.html

“Freddy Heineken, who helped grow his eponymous Dutch brewery into one of the biggest in the world, died today at 78. The beer billionaire had been in poor health since suffering a mild stroke last April, and finally succumbed to pneumonia. "The company mourns the loss of a man who, on June 1, 1942, at the age of 18, first came to work at the brewery that his grandfather had acquired in 1864," the firm said in a statement. Heineken was chairman of the suds empire from 1971 to 1989, and headed its supervisory board from 1989 to 1995. His daughter, Charlene, will take over the family's controlling interest in the firm. Heineken NV shares rose 3% in early Amsterdam trade as Heineken's death stirred acquisition speculation. A fan of planes, fast cars and beautiful women, the flamboyant Heineken said of his marketing strategy: "I don't sell beer, I sell warmth." After being kidnapped in 1983--he was released three weeks later after the payment of a multimillion-dollar ransom--Heineken limited his public appearances. But in one of his rare interviews, he did philosophize on death. "It is not all that dreadful to die, because it was not all that bad before you were born." More...”

Many a night spent raising a bottle in his name.

    Charles

    I don't drink beer.

I didn't even know that his name was "Freddy".

I suppose it is still sad though

I'm sadder over the death of Dave Thomas.
    Damn those burgers are good.
Let's hope Mr. Thomas beloved franchise doesn't go down the crapper posthumously.

Anything with such advertising as Heineken will sell.
    At that point they're excellent!
