    Hi,
I know i've been on this bloody game for a while and i'm still only fleshing out the basic engine but if you could just bear with me I think I might end up with something half decent.

The link below is to a menu to load two different versions of the same game (They use different rendering engines).

    http://www.nlc.net.au/~oceana/games/testmenu.html

The full rendering is visually appealing while a bit slow, however the half rendering is fast but tends to look awkward and jagged (At least in my opinion). This is my opinion however I think i'm too close to the problem and would like some harsh, unbiased opinions.

    Thanks in advance!

I think your engine would make a great version of Tempest or how about Star Wars. They were great 80's
    vector line games. Fantastic

    hey blink
that's cool. the only thing that bothered me was i found the controls weird because in most games of this type the up/down controls are inverted
eg. up makes the ship go down and vice versa.
also i think it would be beter if you made the celling, walls and floors diffrent colors to make it a bit more obvious where you were.

it would really kick ass if you could see the ship

    Thanks gas,
The inverted vertical controls I will add as an option. I think i'm just dyslexsic?? The ship idea sounds good i'll try it.
I've added the scene from the main game to the menu so you can get an idea of who it looks also. Changing the colors of the floor/ceiling make it too slow unfortunatly(I have tried it) but look at the main game level, you might find it a little better.
What I really would like to know is a comparison of the two
methods of rendering the scene. Which do you think is better? Half rendering or Full rendering?
    Thanks

It´s really nice. It goes so fast though, I can barely see whats happening. I haven´t got a chance to get any points. Slow it down.

    Hey JR,
Was that with quality set to high?? Was it with the full rendering or half rendering??
When I run it I need to det quality to medium/low because it's too slow.
My PC is only 400Mhz with a 16Mb Graphics card.
    Thanks

hey blink- the controls wernt inverted ?

still pretty cool, it ran fine on both my computers 400hrz and 700 hrz though there was a little slowdown on full render on my 400 but nothig to worry about.
what FPS is it running at?

how did you create the tunnel effect? did you do it in a 3d prog or has it been done with math?

    Hey gas,
    Controls are now inverted.
I removed the allowscale option so now you can maximize the window (It's pretty immersive). Although it's only fast enough on low quality for me.
The 3d bits are done with calculations but it's a fudge. I think true 3d would be too slow.
Our next level (First person, A bridge) is true 3d though.
    Thanks

Yes everything was set on high. I have a 1.4 GHz and the graphics card is good (I work with 3D graphics).

You've got a monster machine there JR. I changed the game so you can maximize it. Sorry to bother you but could you try it maximized and see if that's acceptable.
Tip: Press and hold the spacebar
    Thanks

    Hi blink,

Yep, your game is nice ! But, really, add a ship, It'll help to control movments. It's quite hard not to bump on floor, and walls. The "turning" impression is really great ! And the movie' size is really small...

Flash is okay to programm games, but you'll have more fun, and more possiblities by creating it by Director with Lingo...

    ok, thats' all, well done...

director files are too big though and the bitmaps look horrible without a special plugin
director also has other issues that make it unsuitable for certain things
it is good for multiplayer though

This first two are 65K each. The second one is 210K.
    I will put a ship in. Should I do a cockpit like this one;
    http://webconomy.sk/customers/webfighter/
or the front half of the flightpod??

that game is gud but i think a back view of the ship would be cooler and possibly make the game easyer to control as you can see where you are, i think a cockit view on your game would cover too much of the screen and keep you away from the action.
