This is the original story from about 18 months ago:
    http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,37095,00.html

The whole thing is nuts, it's like when amazon patented the 'Buy in one click button' making it impossible for websites to have a button that instigated a purchase in less than two clicks!!????

All we need to do to is contact BT's legal dept and ask them INDIVIDUALLY if we can have a license to use 'their' technology.

That's right, EVERY webmaster, EVERY web designer, and don't give up until they've given you a licensing fee, or sent you a letter of approval.

After the one millionth phone call, they might just see the insanity in what they're doing, after all, sueing ISP's is just damn lazy, if they want licensing fees for the hyperlink, they aught to get off their arses and ask us all individually.....

I'll find some contact numbers/names at BT and post them here so you can forward them on to everybody you know whose 'infringing' their patent, but not before phoning them myself. I mean I don't want to break the law, do you?

    OK....

Either dial (+44)800 309409 and ask to be put through to their legal dept.

Or dial (+44)207 492 8102 for a direct line to their intellectual property department.

I spoke to a young lady named Suzanna, she said she'd have to get somebody to call me back. I insisted on being given either:
    1. written permission to use their patent.
    2. being quoted an individual licensing fee.
    3. or written notice denying me permission to use their patent.

I shan't give up until I have one of those three.

    Over to you.......

don't bother. BT own most of the phone network in UK and dealing with them is a nightmare. You will be given another number, and then another, you wil be put on hold (greensleeves arrgghh!), and then after 20 minutes when you do get through, the line will go dead.

I know, that's why I asked for the direct line number.

    I'm not silly.

'Patent on the colour yellow', indeed... What particular hue, may I ask, eh? Not even a CMYK, RGB or hexadecimal code!

That's almost as absurd as the vague gibberish BT are suggesting specified hyperlinks.

Unless the patent is for something _really_ _specific_, registered well in advance of the actuality, and your demands are reasonable, you're just making a ridiculous spectacle of yourself.

Now I've just patented hr00:min00:sec01 [GMT] on the 14th February 2002. If anyone wants to use that precisely-defined second, for any purpose at all [such as getting to and beyond hr00:min00:sec02 [GMT]], I'll only charge £0.10p / $0.15c each.

Check back for my PayPal details.

Sorry - strictly one each [I knew there'd be a rush].

Would you be interested in a shares option?

That's impossible, I own the patent on the letters 'L', 'E' and 'X'

(Microsoft own 'S' 'I' and 'F', along with 'M' 'C' 'R' 'O' and 'T' We're currently fighting a joint legal battle with Jim Henson for infringements by sesame street.)

The underscore is up for grabs, though.....

I created the semi-conductor!!!!! Pay me or I will release my Magnetic Surge of Doom on you all!!! BOW DOWN TO ME! AHAHHH!!!

Safe to say that my computer is protected by
    Magnetic SafeGaurd(r).

These people (BT dudes) are crazy for thinking that...LOL. I'm not talking about all BTs mind you, just those dumbos who think they invented the hyper-link when the poor old man sitting outside StarBucks created it.

Ok, no joking here: IBM owns "IBM BLUE" That's just bonkers and a half, and If you want to make Purple Sand Paper, YOU CANT! 3M makes sand paper that is purple and has black writing on it that says "The color Purple is a registered trademark of 3M" I always figured that God owned such stuff as colors, but if IBM, and 3M think they came up with those colors... ...uh...

    patent issue

Isn't here a time designated on when a person/company can claim a patent? After all, I do know that after a given amount of time if no one makes a dispute about a patent then it becomes public domain. Unfortunately, I can't think of any specific examples.
