    hmmmm....

    Hi

Have you tried viewing the SWF file offline on a mac?
to test if it works offline.

I'm just trying to narrow it down.

Yes it works offline, I think I have accidently solved the problem, if I export the file in Flash 4 format, it seems to run fine.

    Wink

I have a similar problem to marcmalone but because my Flash file uses actionscript that won't work in Flash 4 then I can't save it as that. The FLA was created on a PC and everything works fine on Windows. The published SWF file works fine in Flash 5 player on the Mac but when the FLA is published on the Mac is where the problem arises. It just disappears completely when the pop up windows appear over the top of it.

    marcmalone:

Check the version of the flash player on the mac, if it works when you export it as flash 4 then it is 90% likely that it's the flash plugin.

    BSUC:

This sounds like a rendering problem in IE, nothing to do with flash.
Post the URL and we'll test it out...

Works fine with OSX, but all I get in OS9.2 is the sound
    loop and an empty pop-up.

Like SJT suggested, do you have the latest Flash
    plug-in for IE installed?

    Refresh problem

The trouble is hardly anyone uses OSX here in Britain yet as there is little software support for it. I have tested it on Mac OS 9.x to death and get the same results every time. The popup window with an image appears and then the SWF goes blank in the window behind. There seems to be no logic to it at all, as it is fine on the Windows platform. Also if it wasn't flash 5 then the volume bar wouldn't work but it does.

    ???

    Re: Refresh problem

    Strange..........

If you like I could check the PC FLA on my MAC for you?
I have a PC to MAC FLA converter to allow me to do this.

I can't think of anything It could be without looking at the
    FLA.

    So it's up to you.

    Let me know ASAP.

    Hope I can help.

yes, i can reproduce the problem here, with macos 8.6 on a PPC 8500 and flash 5 plugin installed.

to start with, everything looks fine on the page, but
when i click on another browser window, the page
becomes all white except for the red square showing the mouse xy coordinates.

mousing over stuff returns the name list and clicking
a name re-renders the image scroller. but, when i click
an image, the mini window appears (to show the bigger image), and exactly when the big image starts rendering the flash file disappears in the background.

i noticed in your code the javascript you used for your window popups, called "openCenter", maybe it has something to do with it? try posting a version of the page without it and with a couple of geturl links working in straight html: if those would work correctly it could narrow down the problem to the javascript...

another thing that is odd is the name of your swf file,
named: "Student%20menu.swf" . the "%20" sign is used by some systems to replace an empty space in html codes, (empty spaces are not allowed in naming pages or folders on servers). maybe you should try to repost it with another, more standard name, like "Studentmenu.swf" and see if it helps...

    good luck,

The "disappearing SWF" is a rendering bug of IE5.x!
It happens when the SWf is inside a table that has "align/valign" definitions.

    Removing the align/valign solves it.

late looking at this, sorry but it all worked fine on my Mac.

    I'm using OS 9.0.4 and IE 5.

Current flash plugin as far as I know

    Problem solved

Thanks for all your help, everyone. It works now cause I fixed it.

The problem was that I inputted the flash 5 swf into a page that I made in dreamweaver, which I've been told only correctly supports Flash 5 swf's with the help of an extension. It is setup for flash 4 movies. I went back to the FLA and republished it as an HTML page, which created entirely different HTML code, and then inserted that into my site!

    Now you know...

    Re: Problem solved

I tested your FLA and it seems to be just as you
have discovered. Using the HTML created from
FLASH works fine for me also.

    Cheap logic

only 10% of users have the flash plugin?

it will be 2 years before everyone has Flash 5 plugin..

whya the **** would you want to exclude 80% of your possible audience?

cheap logic = Flash 4 plugin until 2004
