I posted this in 'general help', but I think I might get better advice here.

the problem is that my image quality goes down for some mysterious reason during my movie.

I made a page that better explains my problem. You can see what i'm taking about here

the files are about 150k each, so it should take a minute to load.

the first file on top fades in from black, so give it a few seconds.

    thanks

Theres a few thing you can do to get the jpegs crisp.
    1. Right click the image icon in the library-properties-de select allow smoothing
    2. File-Publish settings-Jpeg-Bring the quality up to 100
    3. Convert the Graphic Symbol set the alpha to %99. This solves a known problem in Fash called pixel shifting
    4. Under Publish settings Set your Flash movie to pixels not percent. Percent tend to stretch out any pixel based images
    5. This is just a tip from me. Do yur optimizing outside Flash. In Fireworks or Image Ready.

    You are the dude!

I set it to 99% and it fixed it right up. Thanks a bunch. I'll try out your other suggestions.

I never heard about this pixel shifting. Is there any other remedy? I'm worried that reducing the alpha may make the movie run slower.

    Thanks again!

The alpha setting is the only way I know of solving the pixel shift issue. The %1 alpha fade won't slow the play back. Well noticeably anyway.

I do know that that Flash has other issues related to object positioning on the stage. Select the object open the Info Panel. Select Transform, try changing the x & Y coordinates to whole numbers. In this example X=23 Y=28.
I know this works for smoothing pixel fonts.

With the image selected Insert-Convert to Symbol-Graphic Symbol Open the Color Effects Panel- Choose alpha
