Thread: X, Y coordinates - their understanding

    How to understand X,Y co ordinates in Flash 5. Is X,Y cooradiates of every MC,Button,Graphic is relative to Movies's X,Y coordinates.

    is (0,0) coordinate of the movie is always at the center of the movie.

    Grateful if somebody can direct me to a website on this.

    the x and y attributes are relative to the a certain point of the *parent* MC.

    on the main stage this point is always the upper left corner. In movieclips the x, y coordinates are relative to the clips "centerpoint", its the little crosshair. I dunno why it's called the "centerpoint". I always treat it as the clips upper left corner to get consistency with main...

    hkhyd, This is a very easy way of putting it.

    Go into Window/Panel/Info or Crtl+Alt+i in Flash.
    make a mc and play around with it. Move the mouse around and you will see how it changes in the info box. O,0 is the exact centre of the cross that you see in the mc. that cross thing!
