I often need to go from cartesian to spherical polar to cylindrical coordinates when trying to place objects in 3D, and Calc 3D - freeware at http://www.greuer.de/ecalc3d.html - is a very useful aide when doing this. Entering the coordinates in one system immediately gives them to you in the other two. It also handles vector and matrix, point-line-plane and complex plane calculations.
