I would like to be able to use a text object as a mask, placing moving elements behind it. Can't figure out how to do it (the mask element only allows paint objects). Is this possible?
    Thanks!

Nope it's not possible, but it would be a fantastic feature.

As a work round though you could easily use an image file with transparent areas. The effect isn't quite the same but on the plus side you can give an image properties/motion.

Actually its possible, go into advanced mode for the text object, copy the paint objects, (they're at the bottom) and paste them into a mask. Try it, reply if it doesn't work

Nice work around, I haven't tried it yet, but sounds resonable enough.

    how?

Yes - there doesn't seem to be a way to paste anything into the masking element. This could certainly be a nice upgrade feature!
