    hey everyone,

Has anyone here ever figured out how to pull up a browse for file dialog from flash, like the one used in the html form tag <input type="file">?

I'm using flash and coldfusion mx. I found an example of it on flashcfm.com but it only worked in IE. I understand that flash does not have anything like this built in, but it is a serious hurdle that I have to get over for an application my client is developing.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I guess this one was too tough for even the best at flashkit

If I figure it out I'll post it.

Flash, itself, cannot do it. You need some type of server-side script that Flash sends a variable to.

Flash cannot open the "Open file..." dialong. Instead they would have to enter the file path into a text field, which is sent to a script.

yeah, I understand all that, I've been using flash and cf for years. I was hoping that someone had some nifty javascript code or something lying around that would make the file dialog pop up.

I guess I'll just take the stuff I found in flashcfm.com and try to make it work in netscape.

    thanks

    Here you are:

Unfortunately, I think it only works in IE for PC, but you could probably modify it to work with NS (via liveConnect). No way to get it to work with IE for Mac that I know of (because there is no way to pass variables in to Flash via javascript).

    Cheers,
    ZE.
