meantime starcrafter, have at look at the car t3d i posted.
ungroup the car, click on the body or the siderails and then click on the the extrusion editor. you will see how you can draw a profile of an object and extrude it and add bevels. in addition you can use the lathe editor (i don't think i used a lathe in the model). i know it's hard to start because you have to think outside the box a bit (i'm still learning after a year) but after a while there's not much you can't do.
