I'm gutted that Japan are out - they were playing with speed and determination, which always make for a good football game. Guess my earlier support for Turkey has come to fruition!

Congrats USA yesterday.

Can't wait until Friday for the England v Brazil match.

I'd have to disagree with you there, Spain were the better team by far for the first 80 minutes, then they went defensive and Ireland were better from then on. Both teams were poor in the shootout.

Spain weren't exactly the better sportsmen, playin a frustrating shortball game and hedging their bets, hoping to scrape through on 1-0 because they knew that the Irish wouldn't be a walkover, shouldering the Irish, pulling at our shirts in desperation. From this aspect, they were by far the inferior team, they didn't play with any guts.

Anyway, 'tis all over now and no point in mincing my sour grapes. The lads will get a heroes welcome.

We'll get a rematch in or for the European Championships. Then we'll finish them off properly.

Definitely! It could even go to penalty shootout to decide it.

The strikeforce of Brazil up again one of the best goalies in Kahn, not to mention the German strikers as well.

Should be a fired-up match!

Germans are very very confident of making the final.
With the likes of that aerial master Klose and playmakers like Ballack they stand an extremely good chance of taking the World Cup back to Germany.
And they should be a bit happier now that they were allowed to spend a night with their partners officially...
