Oh, David - you know there's no harm meant. A lot of us have gone well past the point of counting posts and into the realm of pointless jabbering - I mean spamming - I mean post-linear dialogue creation, spreading the intercontextual hypertext meme for the betterment of humanity and our collective digital mind. Would you prefer if we went on at length (meaningfully, with insightful analysis, of course) about Buffy's excellent nippleage on the MTV awards? we can do that, too.
No hard feelings either way, I hope - we're just sad, lonely refugees, thankful for the shelter of FK, bright and arid though it may be... like leaving the comforting depths of the jungle for the unforgiving, open vistas of the savannah...
yeah, I know. Just a reminder. If FK moved en mass over to WH they would cop a lot of flak for one-liners (or one worders) they posted there.

but that is really classy
....and I save my hard feelings for important stuff...you know, neighbour killin' your dog or something like that.

They get flak no matter what they post; a sort of trial by fire.
And anyway, I'm pretty sure flak never comes here.

I'm sure they rotated your grandpa's off the front line tho'. A bit of R&R probably did them the world of good.
You should ask them about it, stuff like that can be really interesting when you get them talking.

Neither one like to talk about the war - they saw an awful ot of nastiness, from what I gather.
Yeah, they did get R&R but it was generally a few days at a time - sometimes a couple of weeks. I get more vacation time as a graphics/multimedia designer than they did.

My one grandfather was pretty competent so he got to be an artillery gunner throughout most of the war (and emerged unscathed although largely deaf), but the other was a bit accident prone and kept getting reassigned... he spent the last year as a field radio operator in the Sicilian/Italian front... nasty business, that. He got sniped 5 times & lived, that year. I guess convalescence counts as a break, though, eh?

FJeff... I know you're yanking that chain again ( yes, we joined in the "big one" in 1941, same year as the Yanks - although our British commanders often saw fit to use us as cannon fodder much as in the "Great War"), but just because it was the British army, not "real" Canadians burning down the White House in the war of 1812 doesn't mean I can't take a bus to Madison and set YOUR house on fire.

I had two uncles who were in the British airforce. Both were shot down, one killed, the other a prisoner for about 7 months after crashing into the ocean. Both tail gunners in bombers.
Bad stories and glad that my family doesn't have to deal with stuff like that right now.

No kidding, eh! Even though most of them didn't really understand or realize what they were getting into, I have nothing but respect for the people that fought in WWII... OK, WWI is a bit iffy and kind of about empire re-orgs, but the second was really about kicking out the friggin Fascists and Nazis.
Heck, I'm going to go out and hammerpunch a skinhead for my grandpas right now.

I've missed you guys so much.

Jenneroodles? Is that you?
*hugs*
