if you wanted to speak to decent animators this probably wasn't the best way to do it, how about asking who is working professionally as an animator - that might bring you more joy and less sarcasm...

also the animation section at were-here might be a better bet too as thats more narrowly defined for animation
LOL, there are alot of forums out there. Honestly you would have the same response on the majority of the boards. Simply because of the title of the thread. I could just imagine Ibi's response You'd probably get flamed worse at WH. They tend to let you get away with a bit more there.

You really think so? I always found the designation "Character Animation" too limiting - where do I go if I am an abstract animator?
but at least it has animation in the title, i'm surprised that flash kit doesn't have more sections for animation, this is just headed 'art and anime' with the smaller desriptor mentioning animation. I'd love to see this divided into more specialised areas are - checking new animations, links to cool animated sites, a professional discussion area etc.

this area is always full of interesting, passionate and ocasionally talented people you'd think it'd warrant it!

i don't think there isn't nearly enough people to fill those forums with posts... just think of it there are people that are specialised in databases and people who can code and people who can animate... and people who do nothing...

it's pretty useless to subdivide it even further into people who can code one function people who can code well and people who are god with coding

the same could be said for animating and art... people who can animate can also make art... but what use does it have to subdivide it into sections.. with each section containing just a few things...

Don't let the title sway you - I'd rather have a broad generic title and talk about everything than forums that are too polarized and underused.

I do agree that sometimes the "Anime" designation can be a little misleading - we do talk about all types of animation in here. But the best way to find out whether or not you'll fit in the community is to just start in and participate.

I remeber having this converstion a long time back. Some forums it character Animation, others Flash Cartoons. To me it's just a title, and is secondary. Regardless, as long I can find the forums I like. It doesn't matter

I do have to admit tho, this forum has the most anime fans of any I frequent. Not too sure how much that has to to do with the froum title. Maybe some animators just figure it's not for them. Are we turning anyone away with specifying an animation style?

This still one of my top favourtie forums. Even tho I don't have to much interest in Anime particularly. I don't even really know what "Manga" means. But I enjoy the artwork and lurk alot of the threads.

just FYI Manga and Anime means "cartoon" and "animation" in Japanese. These days those words are used for any artwork done in the distinctive japanese style of drawing/animation.

    To mentuat,

I'd like to agree, sometimes I think the forums in Flashkit are way too specialized and cliqu"ie".

Within the animation world in the US "Anime" and "Manga" or totally without substance or credibility. The skills of construction is respected, but the form isn't and most animation houses don't look at anime selections in portfolios.

If you are seriously looking for animation advice you might want to visit:

There are professional animators acting as moderators.

Sorry, didn't see your post. Coulda swore I posted directly after CNO (hope I'm not going insane!!!!!). Besides, you said Manga means Cartoon not comic

The lens flare was done by applying a filter in Photoshop. Nothing special. I just updated the gallery page about 5 minutes ago so I'm not sure if you saw the new stuff yet or not. Glad you liked it all the same

But don't forget to come back and promote your own work every now and again!

Phacker - I'm more than open to suggestions about how to improve the boards and make them less "cliquey", if you're referring to A&A in particular...

CNO I meant no offense, it's just that the majority of the posters on this forum are more into anime then anything else. It wasn't meant as a slam, just an aside. Sometimes those of us into more "western" animation kind of get left in the shuffle. I personally admire anime and its form and design concepts. But there is a whole other world out there. And the Design forum on Flashkit seems to focus on Photoshop techniques. I was just suggesting other resources for animators. I'll always come back to Flashkit, it helped me develop my skills and I'll never forget that and I'll continue to try and contribute in a positive manner.

Ah I see now. Well I had my pic on the bottom layer and another layer on the top with a completely back fill. I set the black fill layer to screen mode (or was it multiply!?) and put in a lens flare. Then moved the layer with the arrow tool.

    At least - that's what I remember

...well obviously you know better than me having been around longer, but maybe just split between kids/fan art/manga wannabe stuff and established animators, i realise the goal is to encourage and help others but in this 'all-for-one' format for animation/art/anime i feel it encompasses too many different styles and levels of ability and i think sometimes people get an unwarranted high opinion of themselves and their work

No - what has to be said is that YOUR the one who is doing all the talking. YOUR the one that isn't showing anything. And yeah, that footer didn't take much time at all.

I'm not here to "wow" people like you. I'm here to learn and discuss things I like about art and animation. I know my art isn't the greatest which is another reason why I am here : TO IMPROVE!

You've come in to this board saying nothing but negative comments. We don't need your insults in here. I also said for you to check Toony's site, CNO's site etc. Not just my link in my sig (that isn't my site you idiot).

Seriously, I hope you decide not to stay because i oficially don't like you. Take yourself elsewhere and bring that attitude with you. And while your gone we'll carry on here as normal with our group projects, competitions and discussions as well as constructive criticism while you and disencourage other people at another board!

Your acting like we need you here. The truth is that we're ALOT better off without you.
