minimal is the word they are looking for....
hey if you have a idea and you invest money and time (same thing) keep at it..
i own a web design company http://www.d02.co.uk and we are going towards the minimalist look and small font cliche that is rising from teh bigger names in web design .. and i would just say that if you are going along these lines then for your opening screen i would just have a nice bar code with your logo in text instead of the munbers ( or even better have it saying 'loading site'with maybee one of the bars going 'up and down' for the pre loader.
make the image in photoshop or something... make sure you anti alias the text so you get the true 'flash' feel and look and leave it as that ( obviously on a white background) ..
the problem is this ... everyone in the site check forum thinks or believes that they are the best or at least in the top two web designers in the world.. they will slate anything that is not 'cool' or to there likings'
keep at it.. the concept of a barcode look is a good one..
i have loads of ideas for this type of site.. if you want the ideas .. give me a mail and i will share them.. good look and dig in there .. the site will be okay after a bit of tweeking

Still Causing Trouble
Don't see any difference. Looks the same as it did before.

ash..
why dont you do the images in a paint programme .. especially the sas logo.. you would get a better shadowing effect on it ..

Actually swordmaster not every one is like how you describe them. Many times I have seen posts saying how great they thought a site was and even asking the thread starter how they did a certain effect. I myself often go into the "Swish Help" forum not only to give aid to people who know a little less than I do ( which isn't that often )but to ask questions but also about the things that I struggle on or have no idea about.
The fact is people come here and put their sites up for checking and hope that people will give them their honest opinions regarding their designs. Of course they also hope that everyone says that their site is great but why should we if its not !! I myself put one of my sites up for reveiw and was told in no uncertain terms that it was plain and boring and slow and the truth was ....... it was plain and boring and slow but I didn't see it til I had someone point it out to me, infact more than just one, pretty much everyone did.
Saying that someones site is bad and not saying anything contructive is a bad thing but I think you will notice that pretty much everyone here will give " CONSTRUCTIVE " criticism when warranted and if there is no criticism to be given people will praise the maker of the site.
The truth is that the opinions expressed are personal opinions and the thread starter is free to take or dismiss any and all advice and/or opinions about his/her and I wholeheartedly agree with what grumblemarc said in an entirely different post that no one here should sugar-coat their opinions and pander to someones ego.
If I thought I was one of the top two web designers in the world I sure as hell wouldn't be wasting my time here asking questions and advancing my own knowledge nor giving my "honest" opinions but would rather be making my millions and snowboarding.
The reality is people like grumblemarc, jofta, and frets as well as all the other people who come to this forum have helped me immensely to become a better designer than I was before and one day will have helped me to be the best designer I can become. I'm under no illusions and don't expect to be one of the top designers in the business but at the very least I am already a better one because I listened to the advice I was given because I asked for it.

Hi Ash,
I like your site.
Why? because it avoids the drawbacks of a full flash site and you have paid attention to your HTML coding, because it's clean and functional, I have always enjoyed minimalist empty real estate on webpages.
I think, like others, that you can keep this look and yet explore the use of colour and the potential of SWiSH a little more.
You have the option in the coding of the drop down selector to add a background colour, and this could be repeated in the mouseovers in your SWF menu if you were looking for a way to add a little colour, just a thought.
i was a little bothered by the sound you have used as your mouseover sound in the menu SWF, is it meant to repeat like that? In your loader it clicks once.
You have the potential to have a little more action in that menu SWF as well...where you have a static 'SAS COMPUTERS' with drop shadow, you could have a mini banner, changing text, moving shadow, anything really, just a bit of movement, nothing too radical, but just there, doodling away in the bg.

Swish Junkie
Hi Ash,
I know what it feels like to be left alone, nobody wanting to answer or comment. That is a nice site, and yes it does need color. Its too... balk and whitish, no pleasere to the eyes. You can experiment with colors, try and see what works best, maybee orange?? Or blue? Try and post then I will again express my feelings.
Good Work!
