apache server on OSX = stress!!!

Ive bee trying to get my apache server working with PHP. I hope there are some experts out there cause ive tried to find my httpd.conf file to make the adjustments for CGI usage and its not there.
Should I reinstall a version of Apache from the apache website or is there a way around the problem?

Im not an expert. in fact in a complete beginner, but if you can help or need more info on the problem let me know...

Terminal:
cd /private/etc/httpd/
sudo pico httpd.conf
...edit whatever you need to...
[CTRL+O] to save.
