somebody earlier mentioned blender. heck, I never got really proficient with blender either... too many darn keyboard shortcuts that are necessary to do anything.

oh well. that's why we have plasma

ok, but what about optimization? From what I have used, Plasma dosent optimize the rendered flash practically at all, the rendered SWF files are pretty huge: for a 100 frame animation of the rotating globe in the first tutorial the SWF size is 484Kb, which is unacceptable in my opinion for a logo... and when you look at the special rendered flash format that you can import into MX, (.swfv) most of the curved surfaces are made up of short lines to approximate a curve.

there are many places where the rendering engine could of approximated outlining geometry as bezier curves in order to cut down on file size, but instead used individual line lengths.

Maybe I am setting the rendering parameters incorrectly, my question is what is the best at optimization and intellegent rendering?

There are several ways to get the file size down.

You could use erain's Optimize. http://www.erain.com/defaultOptimaze.asp

Use less keyframes and adjust the frame rate.

Instead of using ganulet shading try, cartoon, 3color or the other options.

also, think ahead when you model. lower the geometry everywhere you can. more geometry = more complex model = more information per frame = bigger file sizes.

crunch those poly's a bit before you render to flash as well...

youve also got to think the is a swift 3d plug for max so you have all the modeling of max and the rendering of flash

I think max will always have the better plugs over my 2 other favs xsi and maya(in that order)
