No It's going to be next weekend.

    Here's the plan:

I will have a registration page up by tonight, everyone that wants to enter has to register so that we can keep the theme voting under control.

Next week we'll start collecting theme ideas and I will put together a list. Everyone that is registered gets one vote that can be changed anytime up until the contest begins. One hour before the contest I will tally the votes and send all the registrants an email stating the theme as well as post it here.

The date/time I have chosen is Aug 31, 1:00am GMT
Here's a converter to find out what that is in your time zone: http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc
For some people that will be the middle of the night, for others middle of the day. In any case we all get the same number of hours, and because it is a 48 hour contest we will have pretty much the same amount of waking hours.

If anyone objects AND has a time that would be better for the majority then please let me know.

If enough people actually participate I would like to make this a monthly or bi-monthly contest, so I'm trying to come up with a better name. So far I have Quickie Flash Game Contest, which sucks. Any suggestions?

Hmm, tricky. Think of a words associated with games.

    1up
    Retry
    Continue
    Game Over
    Boss Monster
    Special Move

I wouldn't call it Flash Game Content, just something cool associated with games.

I think once a month is too often.
Make it once (or perhaps twice) a year so that people have something to look forward to.

If it's too frequent, people will get bored..
That will lead to few submissions and even fewer votings?

Thats what I think at least.

Some person in this forum said, let someone pick a topic and everyone has to agree, in this case matt should. then we can start straight away with the rules planning ect..

    don't pffft registering It's a necissary evil.

I got the registration done, you can go here to sign up:
    http://mattguest.phpwebhosting.com/contest/

For anyone who's leary about registering let me explain again.. the only reason why I want to do it is so that
    1) we can cut down on people weighting the vote.
    2) it's easier to announce stuff if I have an email address. I swear I don't have any alterior motives or anything, I'm not going to sell your address or bombard it with porn ads. This whole thing is just for fun, I really don't want anything else out of it.

As for the ongoing aspect of the contest.. maybe once a month is too much, but I think we could keep it going more than once a year. Because a new topic is chosen each time, the contest could remain somewhat fresh.

I picked a name I think: 48 Hour Game Bash

im with. registering is a mess. everyone will just post their game on a specific thread. then we'll get a voting thing and vote them out. thats my input on this incident.

    you type in your name
you type in an email address
    you type in a password

done. It takes less than a minute, I don't see what the problem is. If you can give me a reason better than "i don't feel like it" then please let me know, otherwise I'm going to stick with the registration because I already have 5 people signed up, so not everyone has a problem with it.
In the end it will make it easier to organize all the entries and keep the voting fair.

If everyone seriously has a problem with it then we can figure something else out, but I don't see the big deal.

Ok, I was thinking about it and since some people have a problem with registering I am going to make some changes.

At the start time of the contest I am going to create a thread in the contest forum of flashkit that will be enitled "48 Hour Game Bash - Post your entries here!".

Those of you who have already signed up, don't dispair, I will still send you an email at the start telling you the theme and I will have web space available for any who need it to host their entries.

When your entry is ready, post a link to the html file where it can be viewed, the swf, and the fla.
I will compile a list on my site with all the entries and will have a voting system ready where it will accept one vote from each ip address. That should keep it somewhat fair.

Please publish an html file along with your swf and provide a link to it for viewing so that you can be sure it is seen the way it is meant to be.

    sound good to everyone?

What about people who access the net using a service like AOL? Don't they get a unique IP address every time they log in? If so, you cannot keep someone from voting multiple times.
