has anyone here used the Virgin Mobile Telephone service? I am interested in buying one of their phones, but am wondering how good their service is.

I haven't personaly, but I have 2 mates who both brought Virgin thinking "wow, this is cheap".

Virgin mobiles are cheap, about £30 cheaper in some cases, but their prices start at 5p per minute, where as O2 start at 1p per minute.

I use O2, and so do a lot of my mates, and we recon it is the best.

One of my Virgin mates has moved to T-Mobile now, but I haven't heard from her.

I've used it since they launched. It's excellent, the customer service is very good and you're not tied to a contract for calls/line rental. You are expected to pay up front for the handset but I'd rather do that (since I "acquired" one anyway)

The only potential drawback is VirginMobile piggyback on the one to one network (now T-Mobile) so coverage isn't great in some more remote areas - Some parts of Wales and Scotland.

Apart from that, I would fully recommend them

im in the US, they just launched out here. The prices of the phones are great, and its 25 cents a minute, which isnt bad at all, and you buy minutes, which I need cause sometimes I talk alot, sometimes I dont.

    $.25/min is not cheap.

I only briefly looked at their site and pricing, but what benefit is there over the more common and bigger cell/pcs carriers? (besides the "no contract - pay as you go" bs).
They also seem to use the Sprint network, which is good if you never leave a major city area. Once in the countryside, you're SOL though.

With AT&T wireless, I pay $40/month for 600 anytime minutes and free long distance anywhere in the US. I typically use close to my allotted minutes every month since it is my main phone. At .25/min, that would be a $150 phone bill for me

    No thanks.
