serpent star vs the artist formerly known as Walt :)

Anyone feel like a five round match... jpg's whatever size (don't get too small though)... just use part of previous image. anything goes.

I'm kinda hoping someone who hasn't gotten a chance to play here yet could have a go at it but whatever I guess.

    enjoy...

I gotta tell ya, I'm conflicted... I know you as walt, and now with the name change, I can't decide what name you prefer... guess i should stick to bob.

would you mind following this link and clicking on nm_series and checking out that guys images in that catagory and tell me if you know how that effect is accomplished? I would really appreciate it Bob 49.

I was trying to do something like that with your volley but I was totally stumped.

Very fine image & nice change, excellent !!!

... Walt's just fine ... I'm not one for all tha annonimity thing ...
I blew the cover for BØB_49 on my first post ...

it was more the fact that I was very reluctant to sign-up on another board.
I actually have a BØB_49 alias over at WH ... figured those that knew me would get it ...
that was back during our first WH/FK battle ...

and basically I was only reluctant because there just is not enough time ...
I didn't even know there were such places when I found WH and the Battle Dome ... let-alone other forums ... I got so hooked there, I figure it could become a Real Problem if I didn't somehow limit myself

with regard to your question, I may have an answer that will get you close...an example of my attempts ... not the best, I'll have to look to find you a better example ...

the process in Photoshop can be achieved using displacement maps ...
    [filter>distort>displace]
which basically requires an image to be used as a 'map' for the effect ... say, a greyscale copy of the face slightly blurred and adjusted – figuring black pixels will move up and left > white pixels down and right > grey pixels stay still [this is off the top of my head, so they may move differently] ... anyway, you would get your texture [or text] sized and on a layer and run the displace filter to contour in relation to the "Real" face image ...
there is a lot of finesse and blending involved to get displacement maps to work ...
then placing a layer back over the top to paint in or reapply shadows which are lost helps greatly

3-d texture mapping is the alternate method of working to look into ...
much of the work in the example link looked like it might have been painted in ... the artist hints at a lot hours put in on some of the images ...

a combination of these three is where to go for the ultimate result ...
a real photo of a great face
a 3-D version of that face with a texture map
then combine the two in Photoshop painting or finessing the subtle places where you blend the obviosly real to cover the obviously rendered

I thought I could find a reference to the article online, but no luck ... I think maybe PhotoshopUser was the mag that had a really good feature article and cover demonstrating displacement mapping [and faces] not too long ago ...

here's a link to a good old tutorial [but not the definitive one I was looking for]...

    http://graphicssoft.about.com/librar..._flagpast1.htm

there's a lot of info on the topic if you run a google search, but much 3D, animation and Video is mixed in with the results

you should have just posted your info kck ... always appreciated
