I have a tutorial for that style:

draw a pic, scan, import into photoshop, paint it, give it details, print it, send to newspaper. Two days later buy the newspaper, they'll print your pic for you. Cut the pic, scan it, post it in Flashkit

    thanks guys
nayades - I drew it in pencil scanned it and colored it in greys in photoshop then on the color layer use the pixelate, halftone filter.
I increase the image size before doing the filter so when I shrink it down the dots are smaller. Its a cool effect, like japanese manga magazines. Im gonna post some new chars once I finish drawing em.

Oh, and starting out 3D i see? Great start! I suggest swift for the beginning though. I've used it from v.1.0 when it came out - and now i finally switched to max.

    Hey,

This is the first time I have ever posted anything.

I must say there is some really great pictures on here, I could never draw anything as good.

Anyway I had a go, it's suppose to be an elephant (just incase you could not tell)

The problem is that it looks very flat and dull, I was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice to make the picture look alot better.

    Thanks

Breaking out the old Gray's Anatomy book?

"The Artist's Complete Guide to Facial Expression" by Gary Faigin is a great book for facial muscles and expressions.

thats pretty cool, Nice cartoony style, The only suggestion I have would be another darker value for some shadows. The more shading you add the less flat it will look.

    Thanks

Yeah shadows would help it look less flat. The thing is I'm not sure where to add the shadows

well is not that difficult, just create an imaginary lightsource, and apply a darker colour to the areas opposite of the light source.

    just like this:

I tried some shading, I think it still needs a little work.

    gday guys

melmann your work is sooooooo good. those chicks you draw are pretty damn hot mate.

fospher that first drawing you did... the tunnel one, that was straight off a tut book. hehe!! i did that one and then i used the camera and sorta zoomed in. it looked really cool

all the stuff is good in this thread. mate i'm looking at all these line pencil sketches and the colour ones and mate i'm astounded. all you guys are really talented. here i am just a student who can barely draw.

maybe if i got a scanner i'd be more motivated to draw for computer.. probably not.. i've got a tablet

i've tried to learn 3dsmax but i just can't get the hang of it.. i should get a tut book maybe...

oh yeah and i love it when people spell "elephant" as "elefant" the f is soo much cooler. im not being sarcastic.. it's like using a y instead of an i like in "downsyde" i like quirky stuff like that. but not z that sucks. im side tracked i think.
