Does anyone knows what software is best used to create the 3D interfaces on Whoswe and sites like these?

Not refering to the 3D animation, just the interface ... can photoshiop do it?

    Thanks in advance!

    ok, we solved this problem:

We use a combination of over 15 diff software apps. But we mostly use Lightwave for all 3d renders and models.

    Cheers,

    Fred

    lightwave is a ausome program..
its a lot cheaper then maya and such..
its rendering capabilities are a lot greater then maya or 3dsmax (in maya, u need a third party rendered like pixar's renderman which is around $8000, amd for 3dsmax, u need brazil rendered which i think is also that much)

lightwave also comes with excellent modeling techniques..
its a lot cheaper and a lot less cpu intensive...

    i would give it a 5 out of 5.
i saw this after using 3dsmax, maya, and lightwave.

Certain aspects of the graphics could be done in photoshop if you are really good so I hear. But all of the 3d is done in Lightwave which as dpvtank said is excelent (I have yet to try it, I currently use 3dsm).

I suppose you can't say it can't be done in photoshop, pixel by pixel . The equivelent would be re-creating the mona lisa using coloured bread crums.

It would be really easy to make the splash page in photoshop
all you have to do is make a white background then import the two 3d models and place them properly on the white backgroung then save the whole project.

Sorry for the sarcasm, but, in reality creating the lighting effects that give digital "3d" its 3d look would be very difficult, however, nothing is impossible.

And by the way I like the green bread crumbs, you know what they say about green...its probably mold, maybe I don't like the green ones.

I bet that's what many of the sites we have seen including whoswe are using Lightwave.. thats the only 3d program i havent tried yet... tried 3Dsmax 5 and Maya 4.5 etc... but i havent been close to create stuff like that in an easy way... you can clearly see the smoking effect beeing used in several sites.. the same thing.. and the glowing effect etc... i bet it is lightwave when i think of it.. its meant to create cinema like effects after all
