what looks good with gil sans font?

Hi! I've got a logo with a Gil Sans font. What would look good with Gil Sans, and how do you pick fonts that play well together? Is there some type of design theory??

    Thx!

gill sans is a great font. created by eric gill in the 40's i think, for the london railway (the tube).

finding fonts that go well with gill...

well i always say that san-seifs (san means without. serifs are endings on letters) go well with serif fonts or scripts (handwritting fonts), but never try (rules are meant to be broken) working two san-serifs together. this is harder to get working

you should always leave the number of fonts down to a minimum. definately no more than 3.

firstly i would recommend designing in just gill sans. use different point sizes, weights (bold, thin etc), leading (space between lines) and tracking (space between letters) to get the feel you want.

less is more. and the more consistant you are, the better the design works.

typography is a very hard art to master, so just keep it simple

    .

    good luck
