Wasting time at failing, but the client didn't care anyway. Should I be mad?
So a client of mine had me submit his site to YAHOO! a year ago for $299. Little did either of us know, this one-time fee is actually a yearly fee.
Well, his card gets charged last week by YAHOO! for $299 and he calls me asking what is up. After some research, I find out that this is now a yearly, NON-REFUNDABLE fee. Yikes.
I actually did it through a web promotion company, so I assume they can help me out here and explain this yearly fee. They play dumb and tell me to call YAHOO!
I do.
After an hour of being on hold, I get a very nice lady. She explains to me that it is a yearly fee and it is NON-REFUNDABLE. I explain how the service was set up through another company and they did not mention anything about the yearly fee. She says that she can send me a copy of the NON-REFUNDABLE policy.
After spinning around in cirlces for five minutes, I give up.
Since the client never authorized the charge, I figure as a last resort, he can do a chargeback. I call him, tell him the story, and tell him to do a chargeback. I was sure he would be upset.
He says, "Oh, I don't wanna do that. I just want to make sure that I don't get charge again next year."
Total time spent on the phone = 1 hour 36 minutes

no! you did what you should have done being the good contractee. and what if there was the opposite reaction: he was mad? you put in your best for the client and that will ALWAYS be in your best interest.
