Microsoft wins Open-Source-Award!
LOL, Microsoft won an "Open Source Product Excellence Awards" at the Linuxworld in New York.
It was Services for Unix 3.0
I'm sure Billyboy can't laugh about this honor.

Goes to show that there's too many awards and not enough recipients.

Not really, there are 55,485 open source projects only at source forge.

You should forward this thread's address to LinuxWorld then - they seem not to have noticed.

Evolution is great, I use it everyday for about 20 email accounts, calendaring, ldap and todos, but stay away from it's IMAP option. Not sure what's wrong, but it seems to not handle the socket correctly, or something. A few of my accounts have intermittent loss of access. Happens just when I need it, so I have to go to webmail for that account.

For ruining your web programming experience.
Believe me...stay away from it!!
Stick with a real web programming language like ASP, PHP, ASP.net, ColdFusion..whatever.
Just don't use JSP for any reason.

Mono is NOT replacing .NET, it is extending it. Having it around, will make it so that Linux, Unix & Windows developers could take their .NET applications and run them across all platforms.
Read the last paragraph in the project summary for a more detailed explanation

Yeah, whatever, but it's free so MS will not earn anything from it.

MS isn't out to make "direct" money on the framework anyway. Their money is made off of the server products that are/will be built on and optimized for the framework and for the services created with it and on top of it. That and it makes programming a whole hell of a lot easier for the developer, gaining a bigger crowd. I think they're pretty indifferent on Mono, because it will hurt and help them all at once

Ok, I agree.

w00t! Man, I always used to get into these kinds of discussions with people over at were-here and they would take a lot longer than that

Anyway, I think in the long run, MS could be really hurt by all the open source developers.

maybe, only time will tell, but i'm guessing if any, not much
MS is learning their own version of open source right now.
They're starting to develop all kinds of code and give it away. There are at least 3 MS sites that I can think of right now that are forums and code download sites. The big ones they give away right now are a Forum engine and a Web Server
Who knows, I could be wrong, just my opinion
