Making sprite looking graphics

What is the best way to make pixely looking sprite graphics that look like they came from super nintendo or something?

http://pixeltutorial.cjb.net/ has some good tutorials, but it comes down to practice and skill in the end.

in photoshop, make a small image, zoom in, and use the pencil tool (should pop up if you hold down on the brush tool). zoom in real close, and have another view of the image zoomed out, thats what i do usually anyway.
