Anyone else think it's a good idea to come up with some sort of concrete steps on embedding video in flash at the best quality while still being somewhat bandwidth friendly?

My way (Other people have better looking video than me, so hopefully they'll post too)

1) Capture video into Premiere
2) Edit and export at full size with uncompressed 48k audio stereo
3) Import into Sorrenson Squeeze
4) Export FLV at whatever size with Broadband setting...


Any one else?

The best results for the web I have discovered is slightly different. I will list them here for you to experiment with.

1: Export out of video editor not in full resolution (720x480) but at the size that the video is going to be displayed at, usually 320x240. This will exponentially reduce the working size.

2: Export out using the animation codec, and the audio I keep at 32Khz

3: Export out the video at 20 frames a second

To encode as FLV, I have found that using the QTPRO is the best. I work with professional encoding equipment (stream Z and the encoding card) but QTPRO has better results when dealing with FLV. Using the Sorenson 3 codec or even the MPEG 4 for video and the I bring the FPS from 20 to 15. I focus on keeping the audio crisp and clean so I keep it running at 32Khz.

I have found that clients are more forgiving with some video then audio. Bad audio will immediately turn them off, I think it is more offensive.

So what are you using to encode the video to an FLV?

Reading you post, it looks like you're using Quicktime Pro, but that doesn't export as a FLV does it?

Or are you exporting out of your edit system (Avid, Media 100, FCP, Premiere) as an FLV using a QuickTime Pro codec?

YEs QTPRO does, you just have to goto the Macromedia site and download the Flash 2004 video codecs

Can you post a link to that codec download? I'm at the macromedia site, I've done a search for "Flash 2004 video codecs" and can't seem to find them...

I know they're probably just sitting there staring me in the face...

One more thing, make sure to export out of QTPRO on the machine with Flash MX 2004, otherwise you may get this red X across the video

For sure it's easier to use QT pro, because
if you don't get a develloper close to you
. You need to prepare you to get a lot night without sleeping, for edit descent video contents on a your website.

QT get is simply the best of the stream player, discreet design anf full video function, frama by frame for studiing movement or sfx in a movie. real and win player are completly ****ty.

Flash stream is better for customizing design after passthrough the fact you need to learn Action script ( you can find easier )

We recently finished "Absolute Tahoe", which is a site dedicated to promoting the Lake Tahoe region. We use Flash video throughout the site to present promotional videos, public service announcements, 3D virtual tours, and commercials. We haven't integrated our best video display, which can deliver High or Low Resolution videos based on a user's connection speed, because we don't want to make hi and lo res versions of every video, but...I think we will eventually be forced down that road.
