Textbox with .htmltext not working

I can't seem to get the .htmltext attribute working for a dynamic text field. I made sure the <> icon was checked to allow HTML in the field and I assign instancename.htmltext some text and nothing shows up. The funny thing is that if I just assign instancename.text it shows up fine (with the HTML tags of course). Anybody have any ideas?

I think you should give it as instancename.htmlText instead of instancename.htmltext........... going by your post ..... if you have already given that then ignore this
