if u ever saw blathser studio look at how http://www.writemedia.co.uk coped them talk about not having any ideas
-
Oh Dear
There is a vast difference from taking ispiration and taking a specific website and copying the WHOLE LOT!
How pathetic, you think these guys would come up with a few idea's of their own.

Do you have the link to Blasther?

http://www.balthaser.com
When I was growing up, we did a lot of graffiti as kids. We had this idea that our work was our own. And when someone copied it, they were called biters. They bite your skills and try to pass them off as your own.
As we got better, we came up with a new idea. If you can bite it, keep it. What this meant was that if you could actually copy our work, and make it look better, than it was cool, but if you failed, your were ridiculed beyond all belief. This made people really leary of copying others works because it meant instant disgrace.
As I have grown up, at least I think I have, I still use the same theory. With a bit of a twist though. You copy my work, fine, i must have given out the source code anyway because I am helpful. But if you can make it better, more power to you.
In this case, it is unfortunate, the man is a biter. While the site looks graphically pleasing, it is toooooooo close to Balthaser, one of my favorite sites. Therefore, email will by flooding this poor guys mailbox by morning.
Thats my 2 cents anyways.

i think i'm missing something... i went to balthasar studios and waited quite a while and got to the final site... then i tried the above link for writemedia and i didn't see any similarities... it's not even a flash site. i tried to enter the flashed site above the macro logo, but there isn't a link... did they take it off? or are you people saying the html site is very much like balthasar? if you are well i don't know what to say... or did the people take off the flash site cuz they were embarassed with their alleged copying? could someone clarify please!

I guess they decided to pull the link of their site due to the large responce they recieved about its similarities. I know of about 5 people at work that did, myself included, just to let them know. I think they took our advice.

"DesignMan - the superhero who keeps tabs and exacts justice on design thieves"
I saw a similar thing happen. Listen to this -
I was a serious admirer of the work at http://www.studioarchetype.com (since bought and swallowed by http://www.sapient.com)
In my daily surfing i came upon a site (url withheld - i'll explain why later)with such a similar look that i believe they actually used the same .gifs and copped the html code as well.
The worst part is that the site was for a DESIGN FIRM.
If the site were for a landscaping company or locksmith or anything unrelated to design then maybe the 2 sites would never meet, but gosh - WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!
So - It would've been the obvious move to email them and guilt them into coming up with an original idea (A design company - They sell design as a business, get it together!!!).
It was far more entertaining to do the following.
THE HOMEWORK:
I found some names and phone #'s on the studioarchetype.com site.
THE IMPLEMENTATION:
I phoned the offenders at about 8:00pm hoping to get their answer machine. Yes! I left a very nonchalant message urging them to cease immediately lest we would hafta enlighten their clients to this companies lack of originality.
I left the studioarchetypes art director return phone # and email address and that of Studioarchetypes law firm.
THE PAYOFF:
The next day the site was yanked and had a sad little "UNDER CONSTRUCTION" animated gif.
Then a few weeks later, behold the new (not horrible, not great) website. (i wonder if it was lifted from another source as well??? hmmm...)
Looking back the situation i can only hope that someone from the offending website phoned or emailed studioarchetype to appologize for something they knew nothing about and embarassed themselves yet even further.
Stealing be wrong. As big as the web is - bad will come after you and bite your ass. always.

The intros on those sites remind me of the demos I used to write when I had an AMiga years ago, I still think I have one somewhere that still runs under the PC amiga emulator
