Don't be so cruel man. It's good when people release source files. Sure, you run the risk of wannabees popping up everywhere, but what about the poor soul that just wants to learn the methodology and run with it? I think there are more of them than there are wannabees. Then again, there are tons of wannabees.

That's an excellent point. I am all for learning. We are all capable of continuing our growth as artists. The only thing that scares me is the fact most people will simply change the color hues, layer order, or rotate the elements and pass it off as their own.

Do you think tutorials on how to create the elements, albeit without providing source files, might be just as effective. This might make it so the end user is forced to draw from his own creativity.

Just my opinion. There's no right or wrong answer...

Agreed. It would be much more condusive for learning if he posted tutorials and not just super layered PSD's on the site. He's asking people to copy no? Tutes have taught me everything I know.

Well...here's one I messed around with a month or so ago. This is made up of 3 different pictures that I took. Nothing too elaborate.

Hmm tape! How did you manage to get that to work? I have always wanted to try to do that effect, but I have no idea where to start?

Very nice work btw. You too SB and Calpomatt.

[size=1]Peace out fk. Thanks for all the good times .

it's really not that hard and possible with every half descent flatbed scanner. You get a good, wide (preferably scotch tape as it's transparent) piece of tape. Then you rub it in sand, dust and whatnot to make it dirty. Some hairs work good too.

Now comes the trick to not f*ck up your scanner - you grab a piece of microwave foil (the transparent, thin plastic foil stuff you can buy at any grocery store) and you stick the tape on it. Make sure there are no tears or holes in the foil as it will destroy your scanner! Done correctly, you should now have a piece of transparent grungyness.

Put the foil with tape on your scanner (foil down, tape up) and scan it!

This works with sand, paint or any other substance too. Cigarette ashes work very nicely too.

edit: if you wish to use sand, ciggie ashes or paint (or whatever), it's advisable to use two layers of foil - one on bottom and one on top!!!

    Re: tape & brushes

    hey, thanks gdstudios and Adv7rsus!

but I didn't use wouter999's technic to create my tape brushes - I just downloaded them (I think from adobe.com).

brushes are cool, but too bad they can't be really use for almost anything else but grunge style... ... but I LIKE them!

here is another creation of mine, using the same tape brushes:
    Interlude Records
