Baby Battle
Here's the start of a new game:
http://regnerus.port5.com/babybattle/babybattle.htm
It's a two player game.
Controls:
Player 1: the arrowkeys to walk and ENTER to throw
Player 2: A,W,S and D to walk and SHIFT to throw
Gameplay:
Collect items and throw them to your opponent to do damage.
The game won't stop when somebody dies, so please don't complain.
I also discovered one bug so far. Sometimes when you want to throw, the charachter stops walking, but the walking-animation goes on and on; and you can't do anything anymore. I'm working on it.
Please tell me what you think about it. Any suggestions for the gameplay are welcome.

Elvis...who tha f**k is Elvis?
I only found the bug you referred to yourself...except for that it could be nice! I like one-on-ones

I find it strange that player1, whos face is left in the game, uses arrowkeys+enter, placed right on the keyboard. Maybe it would be good idea to switch controls, so player on left uses controls on left side.
Also find it strange, that babies crawl below items (most of the times), making those balls and hammers look like they hang in the air. If they are suppose to be on the floor, babies should be above all items.

that's a cool game. all you need to do is finish it off. its just kinda freaky that its babies trying to kill each other.
still thinking of a footer

Another great game, Baukereg
BTW, what happened to Chicken Wars 3?

hehe...cute game. A few things though:
*The game should be one player (coding an AI system for a game like this isn't that hard. Email me if you want help with the AI, and I'll give you some tips)
*Babies should be able to wreste with each other
*The game should be isometric
*There should be things the ramps and playhouses (which fall from the sky) that the babies can crawl in, under, and over.

Really great. Just a suggestion. Make the babies able to follow diagonals, not just the four directions. It's a bit frustrating (reminds me of Euclidean Geo).
The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.

Who needs pants?
Nice graphics. Nice little game too. Just needs a little more to make it fun i found that it can get booring pretty quick. But i guess you have plenty of plans to enhance the game. Nice job.

tonypa, you're right. I'll change it soon, that's no big deal.
The items above the babies, that's a small error; I'll change the depth.
adityadennis, Chicken War 3 is coming up, but that game is much bigger then Babby Battle, and it takes more time. And after a couple of weaks working on CW3, I need something else, something small. When Im ready with Baby Battle, I'll continue with CW3.
AJ Infinity, playing against friends or family is something I always like. I played old split-screens game (like Big Red Racing and Wacky Racing) with my brother many times, and that's fun. To play against someone you know, that's the fun of the game; and there aren't much Flashgame like that.
devnull_2k, you're absolutely right. I'll make a 8 direction movement.

Baukereg: There's some code for 8-directional movement that automatically rotates the picture of the baby to the direction they're supposed to be heading, tell me if you want it and I'll look it up for you.

chicken War 3, im excited, chicken war 1 and 2 were some of my favourites. I like this baby game, but maybe power ups would make it more interesting, like a blanket for a force field or some chocolate to sped you up. Just a thought, nice work.

adityadennis, I already fixed a 8-direction movement, but thanx for offering it.
Hackey Sack, the power-ups are something I also had in mind. I'm working on it right now. There are going to be 3 power-ups with different effects:
- Invinsible for a short periode
- Speed up for a short periode
- Restore health
But someone has other suggestions for power-ups, let me know it!
Thanx for the reactions so far! Game will be ready soon!

LOVE IT...
Love the desing, the idea, the gameplay... etc. Really love the way you draw your stuff. That will become a kickass... i'm telling you.

Here's the first update:
http://regnerus.port5.com/babybattle/babybattle.htm
I added power-ups (invinsibility and restore health), and I modified the movement (8-direction).
I haven't fixed the big bug, because I have absolutely no idea's what's wrong with the coding. Im working on it. And I will also add sound.
Btw. Has anybody noticed the sound (splash) when you hit a baby. When it happens at the left of the screen, more sound comes from the left speaker, and the same for right.

Dude, it's called stereo panning.

You need to redo collision detection. Use getBounds() and advanced collision detection. hitTest() isn't all that good. (the baby's can walk through each other)

yeah, It would be nice to have both 1 and 2 player options, but I think Baukereg is just making this as a "side" game...

I don't agree. If you used the standard hitTest of mc1.hitTest(mc2), this would work out fine.
Why complicate it with getBounds, since thats exactly what hitTest is already doing, a rect-rect overlap test.
The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.

Well, it's apparently not working because the babies are all over each other.
Use
Code:
if(baby_1.hitTest(baby_2){
if(baby_1._y > baby_2._y){
baby_2._y = baby_1.getBounds(_root).yMax + 2;
} else if(baby_1._y < baby_2._y){
baby_2._y = baby_1.getBounds(_root).yMin - 2;
}
//Add collision checking for X here
}
