All about Coffee

Whats your favorite brand? and how many cups of coffee do you have? What do you put in your coffee?

Well, I am not really a heavy coffee user..I mayhaps drink the occassional Irish coffee.'

Freshly ground Jamacian Blue Mountain is great (though a little pricey). Lavazza or Bustello usually find their way into both my drip-brew and espresso maker (I like my espresso thick and sweet. Like mud.).

Dark chocolate covered espresso beans are also a wonderful snack.

i'm 30, and i have not had one single cup of coffee in my life!

don't get me wrong, i'm hopelessly addicted to caffeinated soda - but i absolutely hate HOT beverages. i mean, my body is already 98 degrees, the last thing that i need is piping hot liquid pouring into it. it's simply not refreshing....

and before you ask, that goes for hot chocolate as well - nasty!

I drink Nescafe Blend 37, it's about as good a granulated coffee as I've had.

I'm partial to Starbucks vanilla latte too

I like the Brazilian brand Café Pilão. Very strong, very good, with milk and sugar (unlike the local tradition of sweet and black). Over Xmas in Blighty I was drinking my Ma's Lyons coffee and frankly, it was, er... weak.

At my office we have fresh Starbucks all day, so it's either the mild Breakfast Blend or the Full Blend/House Blend.
Usually will use a bit of powdered creamer, but lately been using 2 servings of dairy creamer, CoffeeMate. Also about two spoonfuls of sugar.

If I were out, I'd try to find a Caribou or Seattle's Best, I don't really like Starbuck's coffee, and besides I drink that 5 days a week at work.

At home-I just started using a French press to make coffee, if you don't know what that is or have not used one, basically the coffee grounds are at the bottom of a glass cylinder/pitcher, you pour in boiling water, let it sit a bit, and force down the "press" which is a few metal filters with a circular spring. This seperates the grounds and you can then pour it without them getting in the cup.

What you'd like about it is that basically your mixing 100% of the water with 100% of the coffee grounds-not possible with an ordinary coffee maker relying on gravity to pass water through the grounds.
I love it so much I've put away my usual coffee maker. The coffee is much stronger, and strangely, it tastes better with very little creamer or sugar. The taste is very strong, especially with ground espresso.
I was in Paris for vacation in February, my first time there, and if you don't know how it is there, everywhere you go you get very small cups of coffee, more like drinking espresso. In the US, of course, or culture of coffee is drinking these huge cups all day long-I'm doing it right now.

But try the french press if you have not before. www.bodum.com has a good variety, look up coffee makers and there you go. pretty inexpensive.

Hey - that's "Liberty" press.

Liberty press - that sounds like a wrestling move well-suited for a masked politician!

I've heard of some using butter in their filter when brewing coffee - anyone here familiar with this technique?

In a similar vein to coffee made in a French Press, "sock" coffee can be quite good if made properly.

That stuff is so unhealthy. Great taste, granted, but it's just pure fat.

My ex used to make the world's best coffee at home and since I've never been able to replicate it (damn her!) I now drink a lot of starbucks... yeah yeah, i know, but it tastes good to me!

That is right. If I can do 5 days, I can do other 9 days easily.

To tell you the truth I don't have urge for caffiene (lucky?) -- I don't like fizzy drinks or the like. The only coffee I can honestly enjoy is a proper French press and Greek/Arab coffee.
No silly milk or sugar to spoil the taste -- just the full black coffee.

My ex makes a great real coffee and great at honey spreading on toast. Nobody could do it....<sigh>
