No sound first time through on 56K Modem

Obviously this works OK on broadband but when testing using 56K modem link the sound is missing first time through. Once in cache and repeating the play it works fine.

Is there something special I need to do on the streaming for 56K loading?

    Many thanks

    Hi.
    That shouldn't be happening.
First off, you may want to check to see if that is happening on other viewer's computers. Then you may want to try reinstalling the Flash player.
Are you creating video+audio files or audio only files?
Even if the file was too large to fit into a 56k stream the audio should still play - it would just start and stop. Something else is going on.
    What settings did you use?

I'm using Flix 2.0 and used the "56K Banner Ad Video (16Kbps Audio, 24 Kbps Video)

Well it should play fine. Did you try viewing it on other computers?

    Hi Johnathan,
Soryy for the delay in getting back but I've now had a chance to test on another machine.

The problem seems to be linked to the fact that the audio takes much longer to download with the knock on effect that the video/audio play out of sequence.

Is there anything I can do to force the wait for the download of the audio during the "loading" sequence to minimise this effect?

    Many Thanks
    Dave

    Hi.
    That shouldn't be happening.
Can you post a link so I can check it out?
Also, if you view the MX video jukebox on our site (www.wildform.com/demos) does the audio and video play correctly for you?

Yep. Similar problems when viewing your demo whereby first time round did not get any further than the "loading" message. When I closed the browser and relauched the same page it played ok. Looks like a plugin problem. Can you tell me how to de-install the current plugin?

In case you want to check my banner using a 56K dial up the link is http://www.vrec.co.uk/vrec_ban.htm

Could you also tell me if there are any performance benefits to upgradeing to the latest version of Flix?

    Many Thanks
    Dave

    Hi.
The file plays properly for me first time around. It definitely sounds like some weird browser issue. If you have another browser installed, you should try viewing it on that browser.
You can just go to the Macromedia site and reinstall the Flash player and see if that solves your problem.

Is there a manual way to de-installed the plugin as I'm sure it will simply say that I've already installed the plugin.

Are there any performance of video/audio quality improvements using the latest versiuon of Flix?

    Regards
    Dave

    Hi.
There are instructions on the Macromedia site on how to uninstall the currently installed player.
As for Flix Pro 3.2 has: Windows Media 9 support, .MP4 support, new player functionality, improved audio sync for certain files, and some bug fixes.
