    Going crazy.. Please Help

I am trying to incorporate my Flix encoded video within a preloader featured on Wildform's website at:

    http://www.wildform.com/tutorials/pr...1874a3500&ref=

I am attempting to embed this preloader and movie controls within a larger console with a movie clip with an instance name of "dummy" I have no problem exporting the fla into a swf file and placing it in the directory calling it.. it plays it fine.. then I take my Flix encoded video and replace the tutorial's swf url with mine.. and it will give me the total frames and say that it loads 100%.. the buttons come down but it does not begin play.. it stays on first stop frame.. the buttons do not work either.. also the file size being reported in the preloader is 0. I have been attempting to use this preloader for the last three days and it is driving me nuts getting it to work.. what am i doing wrong with the encoding part that is causing me problems? I put a stop action on the first frame and inserted a blank frame like the tutorial tells me.. are there variables that I am leaving out the video needs?

    Hi.
That FLA is an alternative FLA for the preloader tutorial available here:
    http://www.wildform.com/tutorials/preloader/index.php
This tutorial has full instructions on how to implement it. Have you checked that out?
Also, what version of Flix are you using? Flix Pro will automatically put 2 different kinds of preloaders into your video if you want. Also, our software Linx can be used to add a preloader to any existing SWF file.

Yes I have tried that tutorial.. it was actually the first one I used.. however I had problems what that one because I couldn't figure out the paths that I needed to change in order to get it to work within the larger swf console that I was pulling the preloader and video from.. then I found this one for relative paths and it works fine within my larger console.. however doesn't when I replace the URL with the one for my flix encoded video.. which makes me believe it is a problem with the way I am encoding the video.. however I follow the instructions on that tutorial in that I put a stop action and insert blank frame in the first frame.

If it works fine until you replace the url's then you are making a mistake with your url's. That is the most common reason that people have a problem with a sample FLA.

    Thanks for the prompt replies..

It is not a problem with linking the video.. it shows up.. but there is nothing telling the stop action to proceed with the movie.. the buttons for play control also do not work.. all i see is the first frame of the video in the window, the preloader fades away and the controls come down.. but video doesn't play and controls dont work.. any ideas? This is after all I do is replace the Flix demo video url with my own Flix encoded video url.. Again that url works because i see the video and i can enter it into the browser and watch it fine without the preloader and controls..

After messing around with it more today I found it it doesn't work when in the larger swf file, but when i call up the player/preloader swf by itself it plays the video in it just fine.

Can you give me insight into what I need to change as far as the controls for it to work within the larger swf file?

This is the url of the video:
    http://www.amzia.com/data/profiles/7...nerlude_v1.swf

This is the url of the flash loader which works when by itself.
    http://www.amzia.com/data/profiles/7...de_v1_load.swf

Like I said when i click a button outside of it to call up the preloader/video it doesn't function.. even though this is suppose to use relative links so would I still need to change variables for it to work in the larger swf file?

Thanks so much for all the help so far..

This may be a bit OT, but why are you bothering with that preloader ? Why not just wrap your video in one of the Flix players and use that preloader and controls ? The player looks better and you can use adaptive preloading.

I remember trying to fluff about with that preloader/player you've got in the awful days before Flix had players, and it was agonising.

Flix 3.2 has a couple of new players with drag bars and the player pack is even better. Unless you've got some excellent reason to persevere with this old player, then I'd just forget it.

Perhaps I've missed some vital factor here in what you're trying to do ?

From what I can tell, the players included don't offer the option to show users how many bytes or percentage has been loaded and that is the main issue I suppose. My clients want people to be able to see how much time is left before playback as opposed to seeing a blank frame before playback.

The players also take up a lot of room.. they wanted something really simple with basically just the buttons for play, forward, rewind, and the draggable progress bar. What would you recommend me do to integrate all these features?

    Hi.
The Flix preloaders show a % loading indicator automatically.
The Power Players include over 10 "minimal" players that show only the play controls. Two of these have a draggable progress bar.

The players do show "% loaded" while they are preloading - that's assuming that you encode with a preloader But you don't get bytes...

Flix includes the fla files of some of the included players and it's very easy to then go in and strip out any controls you don't want, or to drop in a new background, or to "tighten up" the frame size compared with the actual movie size.

Here's a modified player I made which also has the default preloader % display. It's set to adaptive preload, so if you've got a fast connection you won;t see much (but isn't that our goal?). I even put in a little fake button and a message.

The above is a Linx and Flix job. Just love that software

Some of the players in the new player pack are pretty slimline. Have checked those out yet ?

Thank you both for your replies.. this has helped very much and I think I will end up using one of the power players or look through the FLA's of those. I will read up on Linx too..

    Take Care
