You mean the taping finger one? Becuase I hate their one at the moment that is that pseudo os window loader. I think that a well placed preloader can add to the flow of a site.

I've noticed 2advanced is getting away from traditional pre's and getting some relevant content out there right away while the rest loads. I think a fun approach is to make a loader that will be interesting to your customer's customer to view, relevant to the topic or theme.

playmore is a classic, but I think those examples and the sites that fit them are pretty rare. All I ask from a preloader is a visual representation of how much is loaded, I don't need percentages and kilobytes, time to go, I don't care if you're loading music or interface, etc etc, all that is so much waffle, all I need is a loading bar. I get frustrated when I see stupid preloaders, like complex animated crap that does everything except give you any idea of how long you have to wait. What's worse is when people have laoding bars but just make the measure of the bar shoot up and down constantly... what a waste of time.
