Mac bitmap fonts
I have been tearing my hair out trying to use bitmap fonts in Flash 5 on Mac OS9. I can set the text within Flash and the bitmap fonts display fine on the stage but when it comes to exporting and viewing in Flash Player they disappear because it could not convert the outlines.
I have read this forum and applied previous tips but to no avail. I have tried static text, dynamic text, embedding the fonts, importing as a shared library, using Adobe Type Manager - whatever I try the same problem occurs.
These are Mac fonts that I am trying to use and I have tried several so they cannot all be duds.
Please please someone put an end to my pixel misery - eternal thanks to all those who try.

You can't use a bitmap font
because by it's nature it's not a vector
ergo flash may be able to display them on
stage the flash player won't be able to trace
the line...there is no line in a bitmap.
I would suggest avoiding bitmapped fonts.
Unless you want to import them as an image.

Thanks Fret - I was mistaken in the belief that bitmap fonts and pixel fonts were one and the same.
Ironically, it was from your link that I downloaded the troublesome fonts. The Mac font links download as .bmap, which I assume is bitmap.
The only font I have found that displays ok is Arial 11 but I've spent too long on that trying to sort out the bluriness issue.
What is your take on the .bmap issue mentioned above.
Thanks again if you can help me out.

I'm not a mac user so it's not for me to say.
However Rainbowfly is and this is her take on it.

as for the usage of the fonts are they being used
as device fonts?
If so then it won't map the fonts properly.
and I'd advise sticking to standard serif/sans-serif

Thanks Fret.
No, I'm not using device fonts. RainbowFly's answer doesn't help much. I'm using Flash 5 and she MX so perhaps this is a specific Mac Flash 5 problem.
I've trawled the boards for salvation on this but nobody seems to know any cure. Oh well, I guess I'll have to make the best out of what I alrady have.
Cheers.

When all else fails you can do what I do.
Use an image editor to create your text
export as a gif and import into flash.

Thanks again Fret.
You're right, I think it's time for me to stop being anal about file sizes and crack on. Long live broadband!!
