A pal of mine does 3D models for game mods, meaning vehicles, maybe he & I could team up against you. I will be traveling for the next week on biz however.

yup... got it... if i can have a 2-3 day turnaround,,,

    how about 3dhotorealism, 2d:advert....

    could be fun and challenging!

    theme:
    SHODDY GOODS

of course, id be more than happy to take on other suggestions on theme /rules if you can deal with an extended turnover...

    p.s.
"I use c4d for my 3d work, so file swapping may have some limitations... (i have 3dsmax 5, but hate the rendering process)

    are we game?

    oh, i re-read...

you mean use ps for touch-ups?

thats cool too... but i thought you meant using it for 2d layout to embellish the renders....

kind of hard to have continuity/theme in this type of battle without a solid foundation and/or file swap...

I can go either way if you dont mind the time frame...
oh, and if so, you are up...LET'S SEE THAT SERVE!!!!

it's pretty much the basic chrome style... color/reflection and specular channels... i tweaked it a little. The rusty texture is a smells like almonds shader (which i believe comes with c4d 7.0 and up).

90% of the material quality is due to the lighting & environment setup. I actually didnt use any light sources at all on the can, just an hdri map and radiosity. so yeah, the materials are pretty basic to c4d , the trick is just tweaking them the right way to look good with the natural lighting.

would you believe the chrome on the top of the can is exactly the same material as on the 1st gear!

only difference is the gear uses omni lights and no radiosity, the can uses no light objects, with radiosity and an hdr...
