    what scares you?

I had a reoccuring dream the past 2 nights that a dear friend of mine died and I was at his funeral. I woke up scared to sh*%.
It made me think about some of my fears and wanted to know about other people's fears...

    So what scares you?
I don't want this to be a morbid post, but some stuff is serious to me at times...

    My fears:
    • spiders
    • loss of wife
    • loss of family or friends
    • dying (not of death, but of leaving my wife)
    • fear that this whole internet fad won't catch on

Heights. I'm scared to death of heights.
I dream about falling from high up about 2-3 times a week. I hate that feeling. I think in a previous life I fell off a building or something.

I also can't stand beetles, cockroaches, crickets, or any "crunchy" insect with a hard shell and spiny little legs. I'd rather go face to face with a King Cobra than a nasty little cockroach.

I also fear death and loss of family as well. Since I'm not religious, I feel this is my only shot and yea, dying puts a damper on that.

    I know how that is.

    As for other fears:

    losing family members
    dying painfully
    spiders
    heights

Funny how spiders feature so highly, despite the complete irrationality of it all (OK, aside from those really big, poisonous ones - now that's not irrational at all).

my only phobia used to be heights but when I was 19 I went up mount sinai and stood on the edge of a big vertical drop at the top and since then I've never been afraid of them again.

I've been up multiple tall buildings, paraglided once, and stood on the edge of some pretty high peaks and they still scare the willys out of me.

The reason I'm so scared of heights is that I just don't trust myself, much less than whatever platform I'm standing on. Yea I could be standing on top of Mt. Sinai, looking over the edge, but I wouldn't be able to stop thinking...what if this rock breaks? What if I lean to far over and lose my balance etc..

A bug will crawl on me in my sleep, certain spiders (mainly those garden spiders), murders, and unstable drunk people.

    Of serious nature:
Losing family. I lost my Sister over 8 years ago in a car wreck, so the potential for sudden, shocking loss is an everyday thought and realization for me.
And of course being injured or losing my life in a car wreck.

    Other things:
    Food poisoning/getting sick from food
    Cutting hands on metal
Getting robbed (you should see the crime reports from some areas around where I live)
    Apartment catching fire

    Anyhoo, mine would be:

    • Heights (abit)
    • Fires
    • Being high on something, and not having any control of your life (weird one I know)
    • Ghosts
    • Clowns

as childish as mine are it is true

i find myself trying to to calm myself down when i try to sleep cause when i'm in the dark my mind trys to tell me things i've seen in movies are real, kinda like say..that tooth fairy in the movie 'darkness falls', as simple and funny the movie was, certain scenese in the movie haunt me every once in a while at night..

other movie things that creep into my mind to scare me:

    -little girl from 'the ring'
-moth type creature in 'the mothman prophesies'

only way i can ignore it is if i keep telling myself its a bloody movie with actors/ actresses

    I also forgot to put:
Getting hit by a car. I work downtown, it's so busy here, cars everywhere and especially taxis, delivery trucks, etc.
And too often I find myself standing at the edge of the curb waiting to cross the street and just think "one little mistake by a driver could wipe out a dozen people on this corner in an instant."
Always thinking that someone is going to swerve to avoid a bike messenger or something.

    It's very unsettling.

I'm not so much afraid of heights as, when even if i stand on a chair i get dizzy.. and unbalanced..

I hate spiders though.. and pretty much all bugs. Too many documentries where they show bugs close up.. hehe
