    How was this done?

    How would you take a backgound of something and add some lettering to make it seem as if it where originally part of that backgound. See attachment to see what I'm taking about. I tried using different opacities but it's not working out, the letters just fade away. Notice the cracks on how they seem to go through the lettering but they are still visible.

    are you using a bitmap application like photoshop? If you are play with the layer blending modes rather than transparencies, one of them should do the trick.

    different modes do different things, react different to the pixels underneath.

    It has to do with layer modes and the Distort > Displace filter in Photoshop

    I'm familiar with Photoshop but would there be a way to do this in Fireworks? Just asking.

    with fireworks i can just think of playing with alpha transparency

    better PS
