    random iPod and iMac updates

well i wasn't quite expecting this:

apple quietly unveiled slightly faster iMacs and new 20 gig and 40 gig versions of the iPod.

    but still no powerbooks...

Odd, instead of adding a 20 and 40 gig model, they replaced the 15 and 30 gig models.

I guess it's technically cheaper, that you get more capacity for the same price.

As for the older iMacs, I would expect resellers want to get rid of the older ones, Apple will probably ship their stock to them.

as far as recording, i don't think this update was meant to be viewed as a new product release with new features, just an existing upgrade.

and as far as substituting instead of adding the new 20 and 40 gig models, i think apple is just trying to keep their product line in check. personally though i kinda like how it seems to make more fiscal sense that the 20 gig is a hundred dollars more than the 10, whereas yesterday the 15 gig was a hundred bucks more than the 10.
