    40GB iPod

    http://www.apple.com/ipod/

Must have been new today because I haven't read about it. The 30GB has been removed and the 40GB put in. 10,000 songs they claim.

The thing is - does anybody have this much music?

I'd probably have about 5000 files or so if I put all my cds on my computer, so I imagine it's possible to fill it up.

I think it's become an embarrassment that an iPod has twice the hd capacity of my laptop.

    :|

AND, does not have half of it taken up by XP.

It's even more an embarrassment that the new iPod has twice the HD capacity of my desktop PC!

You can fit 25 copies of Windows XP onto the new iPod.

why would anyone want 40 gigs on an ipod? If you share 40 gigs on Kazaa the RIAA will be all over you. Who has this much music, and time to listen to it all?

the ipod can store data files, not just MP3s. Also people burn their cds and put them on the ipod, it's not all about music you've obtained over the net, I don't see what the ipod has to do with sharing files on kazza.

    I've done some sums.

    10,000 songs
Album - average of 15 songs
    666 albums (approx.)
    Each album is £12 average
    £8000 on CDs, that's about $13000 or €11000!

People with money and time fill it with MP3s only.

Well I am going to get an iPod, and I will most probably get the 40GB model. I have nowhere near that much music at the moment, but with that much space I can keep all the music I want for years to come; I had to a delete a few GB of music from my computer a few weeks ago as my computer was running out of space.

Besides you can use the iPod as just another harddrive so you can backup onto it etc. A lot of my friends have Net MD portable minidisc players which cost $399 so for the same price (or +$100) I could get an iPod that will keep all my music and more in one place easily.

Ive a quick question about USB 2.0 though. Ive heard that you can plug a USB 2.0 device into a USB 1.0 port and the device will work (but at the USB 1.0 speed), is this right? So could I buy an iPod and plug it into the USB 1.0 port on my computer?

Question: say you rip a cd onto your iPod... CD quality or AAC quality?

If you bought a Mac and got all the WMAs in some kind of Mac or MP3 format then it would be.
