I've been playing with MX2004 for three days and I can assure you: I can't see any difference in performance. Beware: We all are designers with optimised computers and nicely connected to the web.
Try it and ask your neighbour to check what you've done.
All I noticed were some nasty bugs, but... generally speaking there are some nice extra's like the "timeline effects". Also the new "mobile device" templates are verry neat. I think that's gonna be a whole new era. Wait untill the first bugs are fixed.......
Oh....and "Livesaver". I got the basic waterdrops from FK. Just tweaked it a little, even as the clouds. Thanks anyway.

Dead wrong.
I have several files that I shelfed because MX was
too slow. In the 7 player they were smooth as glass.
These were mathematic heavy realtime 3D render engines.
Lots and scripts and rendering envolved.
I guess it could depend on how far you're pushing it or
what your doing but it is WAY faster than 6.

Hey! Admin & Mod!,
Start a seperate section for MX 2004 itself.
Just like how we have for Flash MX, etc.

Hai Chris,
In my case, I can't see any difference. Your remark on how far your pushing it is right. I have not tried to do something "really heavy" yet, cause it normally didn't work on my viewers computers.
Basically is what I design as light and as fast as it can be (a viewer doesn't always have the gear we own). A faster player can be an advance for you but in my case it's not that much.

Why go to someother location?
Just wanted to know, why do we have to go to another site just to access flash mx 2004 forum. I think we can have a seperate section here itself.
Flashkit is the place to be and lets have it here.

I'm not trying to be rude--I love Flashkit, and have used it for years--I also know that it's supported by many, MANY users, and it's been a valuable resource for all of us, BUT--I have also noticed that the webmaster(s) are very, very slow to respond to ANYTHING here. I would imagine they have other jobs they need to attend to, but the maintenance level of Flashkit forums has kind of sucked.
So, to sum it all up--who cares if it's another site. It's just useful for MX 2004 users (and I'll need it very soon once we upgrade.)
It's the internet--same damn place. Different .com address.

bump and quick question...
yeah so like, i've been working for 4 months on a project, it's over 15000 lines long and now it's out of date... the best part is, its not even released yet!
so whats the deal with AS 1.0 and 2.0 working together? all i've found is that "oh ... you shouldn't do it... " or " dunno yet.. ".
will we need to convert old stuff (huh ... old...) to make it forward compatible?
whats the deal?!
www.fadetoblue.com its a game in development if you were wondering...

Why would you switch if the original game idea was for Flash MX's engine?
I've been working on a Flash-based application for the past 5 months. I've got plenty of code behind it, too, but, I'm not even THINKING about porting it to MX 2004 right now. What it's been designed to do, it DOES. Once I get MX 2004, I'll find out if it's to any major advantage to switch, and if I decide it IS necessary, I'll probably spend another month or two making it compatable with MX 2004.
If you can still get the game to do what it's supposed to, then why change it? Finish the game and get it out there--if you try to update everything at the rate that software changes you'll probably want to tie your computer to your ankles toss it off a high bridge.
If it's necessary to switch later on after you've finished v1.0, and you're getting enough attention on it, THEN consider upgrading. It'll save you a lot of stress.

Deathbringer
but is there any info on compatibility issues between 1.0 and 2.0?
i'd consider porting because there's still so much to do on it and having 1/2 and 1/2 might not work out too good...
-
Don't switch to MX2004 yet.
As you would know by now the release of MX2004 has some bugs. If you decide to bet on the new version you'll have to figure out all the changes, bugs, new scripting etc.
Is that worth your 4 months of hard labour?
My advice is to finish the job, get it running and then decide if you could do a upgrade with minor extra work.
I've skipped Flash 5 (because my old boss wouldn't let me)and I'm happy that that happened and we were only using it for graphics!

Need a 2004 forum!!
Hey, just thought i'd throw my little bit of weight in with the rest of the "Need a MX 2004 Forum" bandwagon - even if this means mixing metaphors!
Seriously, we need this, i've gone over to flashmx2004.com/forums... flashkit is losing people because of such a simple thing as neglecting to add a new forum! Insane!
The key is to reach the caffiene concentration point where one's fingers can still just write code and one's mind is as sharp as a lightsaber.

yeah I don't understand, FK is awesome! we need a forum

its more insane to favor that forum over FK since there's practically no one there yet. MX04 is STILL MX, and Actionscript is STILL Actionscript, so the Flash MX and Actionscript forums here at FK are still viable forums for the new product. Everyone's just so quick to put a new label on things. I seriously doubt a name like "MX 2004 Forum" is really going to have that much an impact on FKs membership/attendance. And even if it does (as your opinions seem to so reflect) I dont care

Ok well since everything I'm using 2004 for is not supported in MX it is difficult to get answers on.

Just came out? Do you buy a car that has no brakes cause they are "still under development"?
My company has a great idea and we want to put that on the market verry soon. Still I have to solve the problems (mobile app's/MX2004 lite player) by myself because there's no help topic and it's buggy (I've noticed several).
When I'm done I hope that the competition has experienced the same problems.

wha?
...and you have to ask questions in order to get an answer.
-
When you ask a question. You WON'T get an answer....
It's simple: We need to earn money for our living otherwise we go bust.
That's why I do not have the time to ask and wait until somebody comes with an answer. Especially for something as new as the mobile editor wich will be unused and unattended by many.
Got it?

...and when you don't ask, you CAN'T get an answer. Your responses are a bit off tangent for me, so I'll just walk away now. Have you tried here?
