While in Chiapas I was told by indigenous leaders that one of the important factors in the long term struggle for indigenous self-determination was the development of direct markets for the products from the indigenous communal villages. I began to think about the idea of a business that would incorporate a type of "free trade" that included the indigenous peoples values or, more specifically, would put human values ahead of profit values. I knew that was a pretty big ideal and it probably wouldn't be easy to accomplish but, regardless of the odds, I decided to start the Human Bean Company.

I seriously think more people need to support causes like this... the coffee we drink is really tasty and it makes us happy ... the people that make it happen deserve to be treated fairly so they can be happy too

I love the great taste of a wonderfully brewed cup of coffee. What I really like is trying out different blends. I am very fortunate to work at a company that has freshly ground coffee delivered weekly from Seattle. This is a VERY NICE company perk especially since I work in Atlanta!!!

Mocha is my favorite, although I'll take black with 1ox (packet) of sugar.

Its nice and warming, plus the caffiene helps a bit, the aroma is great, and the flavor (except for the bitter aftertaste...but I've gotten use to it).

Its got to be steaming hot though, I can't drink cold coffee.
